Is it true that you only need to raise landing gear 4 inches off the ground?

    By regulation or common practice?

I raise them almost all the way up. And I do drop and hooks all day.

The extra cranks help burn calories! Which I sorely need.

Sure if you are only driving on level even ground. Wait till you go into some driveways or uneven terrain and see what happens if you leave your landing gear low.
It's best to crank them all the way up to save some $$$$ and embarrassment

Crank your landing gear all the way up. If you don't, sooner or later you will wish you had.

That is a good way to meet the driver of the freight train when you get hung up on a R/R crossing !!!!!!:biggrin_2555:

I know there is that notch in the fifth wheel post, but can slamming your landing gear on the ground going over a hump cause the trailer to unhook?

It may not come unhooked I personally have never seen that, but it can cause you to loose the landing gear or your job! Just raise it up doesn't take that long and jobs are hard to find. not to mention if you meat that Train engineer it may be in Heaven as every trucker has done his time in Hell.

Crank all the way up then back it down 1/4 turn....in case the grease or gear seize, you have two directions to move even if it is only an inch....better chance to break it loose!
