Danny Ive had EXACT same experience.

In fact almost could be said for all brokerages, but LS copy and paste loads always seem to be $400 to $500 less than the real freight holder....thats an awful lot to make double brokering on one friggin load>

Here is how getting a Landstar Broker load works,, When an agent put freight on a Landstar truck his commission is 7% of 98% of the gross revenue,,the rest goes to Landstar and the truck.
When the landstar agent brokers the load to a non landstar truck he splits what ever the difference between what the shipper pays and the amount that the trucker agrees to haul the load for,
So if the shipper is paying $1,000 to have landstar move the load and the trucker agrees to haul the load for $700 Landstar take 2% off the top to start, that leaves$980 ,,subtract $700 paid to the broker truck and then the agent and Landstar split the $298 left 50-50

So agent only makes $68.60 commission if he gives the load to a landstar truck but if he brokered the load for $700 he gets $149 commission

The standard for agents is to pay brokered trucks 80% of the freight charges but an agent can agree to broker the load for as much as 98% many landstar agents tried to broker loads to me taking as much as 50% of the freight charges,
It is what ever they can get a broker truck to agree to.
For several years I had an agent friend let me use their landstar pass word and I could look on landstars sytem and see the gross freight rate, really help knowing how much money they had in the load so I could negociate a higher rate,
I had an agent that was getting $26,000 for and over size load from CA to VA,,he offered me $15,000 to haul the load ,,I finally got the load for $24,000,,after that his customer told him he could only send in my truck for his loads because of problems they ahd with landstar drivers and the customer always told me what they paid landstar,,

Safe to say nowadays Landstar isn't a good company to lease on to? What is the best company to lease to starting out?

Granted some companies are better than others but really any company is what you make of it. Most times the problem lies squarely with the one looking in the mirror but very few will own up to it.

Even with its negatives I still wouldn't lease on to anybody else if I had a choice between LS & the field. LS has some agents that aren't very knowledgeable & work friendly but there's enough work to stay away from them said agents.

I've been with Landstar since 1996 and never took a load into an area that does not have a load out or paying way less than what my criteria calls for. There are agents out there that have bottom of the barrel freight, like all trucking companies, take the bad for the good when it comes to areas where it is hard to get out of, such as Florida, the NE, Montana...if I see on the load board there is a load out paying good, I'll take the load in...Landstar freight is about equal to most companies, its the perks that keeps me with them...such as the LCAPP program, fuel and state discounts, no waiting for settlements, green light PrePass, their technology load boards, follow me load alerts, scheduling my loads as far in advance as I feel I can fulfill my obligations, and many more. When I can be home without any responsibility but the truck, I'm relaxed and worried free.

Any Long Beach, CA container power only folk here that can give a process start to finsh of that port's hazmat or not or both load types? I once saw the long torturous line of trucks exiting the port and how long the wait can be considering they give a day to deliver up to 40 miles away. Thanks
