1.50 minus 2%= 1.47 pulling you're trailer minus 25%=1.10 to the truck minus 33% pulling their trailer 0.98 per mile you had to have a 2.00 mile gross load or better to get 1.50 which is great, but those are getting harder to get. looks like ther's more van freight right now,but it's getting cheaper, flat bedding is always slow in winter but it seems a lot slower this year.8000 trucks in landstar system to compete with plus anyone with a truck and computer, hope you find it easy to make a profit not just pay bills.

Trucking has always been cyclical. It will come back around. It seems every few years they push rates down essentially this pushes the guys who didn't prepare forit out of business then there is less trucks and the rates go back up.
    Just be prepared for it.

Oh, And at this point I'd be glad to just pay bills

Nt to mention there are more scales on that stretch from Houston To central florida than almost anywhere in the US. They average like 1 every 100 miles and they are ALWAYS open. and FL sucks in every catagory of suckness :biggrin_2553:

It depends on what you mean by "curtain van". A curtain van has a hard top and usually van doors but has tarp sides, and you can't haul anything in it that is crane loaded, which is the case on alot of platform freight. However, if you mean a rolling tarp system, like a Chameleon or similar, then you can haul crane loaded freight, but not oversize freight. I saw one guy hauling oversize with a rollback, and he had it "accordianed" (for lack of a better word) to the front and strapped around the sides to hold it in place, but I've talked to other drivers who have one that sticks up too much on top and when accordianed to the front, it is overheight.

It is pretty limiting for another reason too. Alot of platform freight is 8' 6'' to 8' 4" off the deck, and you would have to have a really low fifth wheel height and a custom built rollback to haul 8" 6" off the deck.

All that taken into consideration, it is pretty enticing to think about never tarping again! ;)
