I could pay a very good driver is worth 1400 to 1600. If he works his butt off and he is paying for his own health insurance.

    UPS.

Friends average week is $2400 as a company driver. BUT he is a senior driver, been there 20+ yrs.

I agree that "overall" it's a low paying profession but it doesn't have to be! Too many people settle for mediocrity! There is so much better out there *if* you're willing to do the work and accept responsibility. Most people aren't it seems.

The give up , throw the hands up mentality really needs to go in this industry and country. It's killing whole industries accepting cheap labor and poor working environments. (Many mega fleets)

If you’re talking to 50 brokers before you load you’re not making 1750- 2000 a day on a regular basis

Ok, let's break this down a minute.......

You Have expectations of $1700 to $2500 A DAY, So We'll use approx. $2,000 per day as your Average per week,

    So,That's $10,000 Per Week assuming a 5 day week.........Or $500,000 per year @ 50 weeks Which you'll never Work

Ok, So You Found a Lucky outbound Shipment Paying $2,100 0n 558 miles Delivering the NEXT DAY, Then You Have to "Find" the Next $2,000 Load on 558 Miles Delivering THE NEXT DAY, And Again,And Again And Again,Week In and Week Out.

When you come back down to planet Earth...........The Keys will be in the ignition Waiting on you to get Back to Work

That was quite funny. Lol, but in all seriousness, there has to be some luck involved in getting good paying loads, especially in bad areas I would think. Then the competition is fierce so some of these numbers, unless you deal with shippers directly

If you gross $1700-2500 a day, you prolly ain't planning on working 5 days a week at 50+ weeks a year.

Ain't that kind of the point of being a OO? You don't HAVE to work a ton of hours to make enough money to get ahead... that's the freedom that people talk about when they talk about being an OO... most don't seem to know it though & still work for cheap.

I know some of you have had days you made $4-5k, I've seen the rate cons. N some of you know I have too, bc you seen my rate cons. Is it the norm? No, it isn't. But if you have 10 a year at that rate, and a lot of $1500-2500 days scattered in the rest of the schedule you really ain't gotta sweat working EVERY day.

What's that about self fulfilling prophecies: if you think it's impossible, it is impossible.
If you never ask for a over the top rate, you won't ever get it.

    Exactly!
My regular dedicated freight pays the 1700/day rate. I don't "need" to live in the truck although i do make hay while the sun is shining so to say!
I'd be a complete fool not to work given the opportunity... And that allows for beach vacations and lots of other nice thing... Like new trailers and trucks and shiny stuff .. ;-)

Guys and gals, it's out there, don't take the path of least resistance.

Keep fighting for getting rates and up pass on all cheap stuff that won't pay your truck at least 1000/day no matter the miles.

People get so hung up on rates per mile instead of looking at daily revenue!

The reason cheap freight exists is because people cower and give up, taking their junk. I have many times eaten hundreds of miles of deadhead simply because i won't put crap freight on my truck!

We all need to do our parts to make this industry better for everyone, it has the money to make truck drivers really good money like it used to be.

The money is there if you pay attention and sell yourself .... Not sell yourself short!!

Look at what happens when we have truck shortages in markets...

For anyone that uses load boards like DAT and PAYS ATTENTION, you will find there is Big Money potential ...when ...they need to move their Freight instead of telling you how much you're going to move it for !!

I could probably run down a few loads lately that would blow your mind.

Don't sell yourself short it is out there if you do the work to find it.

That's something in itself .... don't have the "give up" mentality if everyone fights for the high rates it will bring everyone up as a whole.

I'm sure I'm the upper 25% of the industry ..but the point is the whole thing can come up a long way from where it's at these days. Just takes more people to stop saying yes to cheap rates. Let it sit!

Only a very few minority at ups make that kind of money. The vast majority are making 1000 to 1400 a week.
