Really? Yes, every load I pull MUST be profitable. Why else do it? What kind of idiot would voluntarily work at a loss?
Landstar is getting cheap.

You can play hero by trying to play super trucker but still numbers don’t lie .Anytime your running with no revenue you increase your operating cost. What is cheap freight maybe you can answer that? My example was what it is showing how DH does cost money and not really saving time, time is money right so you can say loading and unloading eat up time but you’re being paid DH your not making anything is that what you’re time is worth ok. if you want to pretend all those none revenue miles your racking up on your truck doesn’t cost you ,your not running your own truck or haven’t done it very longDave_in_AZ Thanks this.

How can you not put two and two together? You keep trying to force your way on everyone else. Even in your previous example you did not factor in maintenance per mile so you would have still lost revenue. For some people time equals money and wasting time on cheap freight isn't worth it if they can deadhead to something in a shorter amount of time. Your business decisions do NOT fit everyone else's designs. Respect it!Last edited by a moderator: Nov 12, 2017

$296k as of yesterday mornings invoicing, total miles @ 59k. 65% empty miles.
@Pepper24
General freight, home every nite, all within 250 miles of home.
Tell me more about how I need to "stay loaded". Clearly it's me that's ####ing up. -
So you’re under the impression the truck knows it’s empty so it isn’t going to break down?Last edited by a moderator: Nov 12, 2017

So you’re saying what if you would have hauled a back haul 25% of the time you’re revenue would be$400,000 for same miles
-
Nope. If I took a backhaul I would be late on the following days Load and lost revenue.
That's what's important to consider about taking a cheap backhaul- I'm sure your numbers reflect exactly that.BoostedTeg, spyder7723, gokiddogo and 1 other person Thank this. -
We're not comparing apples to apples here.
bryan21384 Thanks this. -
That's kind of the point though, isn't it?
People who haul cheap on the headhaul, have to get a backhaul so their average rate per mile comes to an acceptable level; those that haul for healthier rates in the first place don't have to sweat a backhaul. The average is already high enough to be sustainable.
"I need to stay loaded to be profitable!"
Nope. -
No, I mean your hauling short hauls for direct customers in a niche market. I suppose if everyone were established on Long Island they could do the same.
That's not comparing apples to apples.
I had a guy that wanted me to do dedicated, 3 runs a week, until he finally figured out why a mega gave him that particular area, there is 0, and I mean 0 coming back, 500 miles, and he will go broke paying $4 mile for a return empty run.
You obviously found someone that will pay you top dige for coming back empty. That's not available to most O/O.
It does happen. And it does come along, usually when the guy that is doing it F it up, or retires.
But driving for $0 or driving for a $1.40 is an easy choice.
