I am not sure if you were asking me or just in general, but to answer your questions:
I stay out usually on average about 6-10 days. Sometimes less, sometimes it's more. I think the longest I have stayed out is 3 weeks. It just depends. I have an agent I work with every week, get a load from him and if time allows I will go home and do a reset, if not I just run the load and go deliver or wait until delivery. The loads he has pay really well, I think. I do believe you can take a passenger, but Landstar must authorize it of course, I am unsure of an age limit. I know they said in orientation what it is, but I can't recall off the top of my head. It is entirely up to you at Landstar as to how long you stay out, what loads you haul, where you go, you do really have complete freedom here. They claim they will want the trailer back if you will be off for 10 days, but once my truck was in the shop for two weeks and I never heard a word about them wanting the trailer, although they could've come and gotten it I suppose anytime they wished. You may and most likely will have a wait for a trailer out of orientation, whether for dry van or flatbed. But when they do get you a trailer, they will pay you to go pick it up wherever its at. Its not a lot of money they pay, but they do pay something.
