Considering how many people give advice and very few give such close detail, I have to say this is the MOST helpful post I've ever seen.
Lots of posts so if anyone has seen better, I would love to see them as in 6 months I hope to have my own truck.
These numbers can be played with for 'what if' scenarios. Brilliant. Yes, your post does help us newbs. Doesn't answer close to all my questions but does help me answer some.
Thank you for the post.

What I find amusing is those of you who reply about partials, JB Hunt pays XX, ect. didn't read all the info or the reply's did ya? Because if you did you would understand that the OP listed SPEEDOMETER miles. Unless your miles are off your speedometer your talking out the wrong hole.
-
Yes i figure mine off my speedo miles and $1.27 is low in my book, i am on a partial run now paying $2.08 a mile speedometer miles, but like i said if hes happy thats all that matters.
-
And your avg is? One run tells only part of the story. I'll stick by my guess that most leased O/O's WILL NOT avg $1.27 for EVERY mile put on the 'meter and that means those miles bob tail'n ect. This ain't my first rodeo, and some folks may do it but, most won't.
-
Not to start a fight but like i've said $1.27 a mile leased on or not is low in my book, i average around $1.80 a mile all miles. If you guys are happy running for nothing and makeing the company all the money then good for you , i did'nt start my own company to work for drivers pay i can do that working for a company. I will say it a third time if the guy is happy thats all that matters
Anj Thanks this. -
Well not to start or finish a fight but, as soon as I hear or see the words "I avg around x dollars per mile" I know that person don't know what they avg, or is dishonest. As long as your happy with around $1.80 per mile thats all that matters.
-
I know exactly what i make just didnt post it, i figure it our quarterly, last quarter i made $1.92 all miles loaded, empty and bobtail all speedometer miles. Last year without going to look it up it was in the $1.95 range and the year before it was over $2 every mile the truck went. All flat freight no oversize.
-
So from those numbers I can assume: Your getting about $2.30 per loaded mile.(I added 10% for actual miles vs book miles. Then 10% DH) Those numbers are very good for flatbed.
-
Yes, 99% of my loads are over $2 a mile, most around $2.50 some less some more. Don't get me wrong there are times i will take a load out of New England for less but i won't go lower than $1.75 and it don't happen very often and i rarely use brokers.

Well I am glad to see that this thread is not too far over in the ditch yet; but, its on its way. Lets pull it back up on the road.
Well Heavy Dude Im going to make a different assumption.
Congratulations rbht, you have achieved what the majority of us in the trucking business would like to accomplish. However, because of that we need to compare apples to apples and not oranges to apples.
I am going to make some assumptions based on your following statements rbht:
This means, we should be comparing you to LandStar not to us.
We moved $85,295.78 worth of freight for Landstar, at total line haul rates. This compares to yourafter you multiply that out to calculate your total gross revenue.
$85,295.78 / 48,298 total miles = $1.77 a mile all miles (I disclosed this information about us at the top of this thread)
So again I quote
We are chomping on your heels rbht.
I dont even know what to say about
I know you cant make more money with JB Hunt than rbht or Grizzly have posted. Any takers? What does "power only" mean anyway? I assume a drop and hook. Landstar pays 65% truck only and alot of their van freight would pay that.
Drive safe
