There is a lot of 3pl freight but the customers will call more than just landstar to move the load. So yes its a good thing they call to confirm the load, especially if its been around for a bit. Some agents are good and some aren't your going to have to weed through the few that are bad and deal with the majority rest. All and all its takes a bit to get settled in and find the good freight routes and the good agents just be patient

I wanted to thank all of you for posting on the last 50 pages. I'm in the process of qualifying for Landstar and I googled Landstar just looking for more inside information on the company and ran across this forum. I liked it so much I didn't realize I've spent the last 4 hours reading posts. I learned a lot about this company from you, and it made me do something else I've never done: sign up for this site. I don't do forums, but after all the time I spent learning on this site I am now a member. The biggest thing I've learned is that I need to make friends and network. I'm not a people person, as a matter fact I can't stand people which is why I got into trucking so I wouldn't have to deal with anyone, but I'm going to do something else I'm not known for doing: Networking. I will kiss babies, i will shake hands, and I will tolerate personalities all in the name of success with Landstar and the freedom that comes with being leased to this company. I will play nice with others. My qualification process is not yet complete, as I'm still waiting to get my truck d.o.t.'d and then my drug test and orientation in Reno, NV, but I am looking forward to this new and exciting chapter in my life and the mountains and valleys that come with it. Keep up the good work drivers. this is Flight Risk and I'm on the side.

So, I'm sitting in orientation and they say "once you have a trip # you're good to roll on the load." In the next breathe they say "You have to get the dispatch info in writing otherwise LS won't be able to do anything if info the agent tells you is wrong." Now, I read on this page all the time don't roll on the load until you have that dispatch info. So if you are on the load, get the trip # but they don't send you that dispatch in the next hour how do you get off the load? Just call the agent? Does LS get pissed when you do that? I don't want to get screwed because I don't have the dispatch but if once they give you that number you're already screwed how do you work that?

Just call the agent and and telling them that your going with another load since you did not send the conformation or load info. I don't wait longer than 10 to 15 minutes then I move on.

You need to be diligent in your business. If you can learn how to find the great agents and customers and steer away from the bad ones who take advantage, then you will succeed. The best way to do this starting out is to find the good freight and stay away from the cheap stuff. Ask a lot of questions, but don't blow the opportunities because you don't know what you are doing. Learn as much as you can and be professional.

When you guys e-file your 2290 to get your schedule 1 under company information that would be Landstar's info? Is there a department at Landstar I can call to help me through this process?

I noticed it also requires an EIN, would that be Landstar's or my SS#?

You can get your own EIN through the IRS online in about 30 minutes. Any info requested on the form is yours.

Per Customer Service you need to let the agent know upfront that they have XX minutes/hours/etc to get Freight Bill to you or you will be booking another load. Otherwise, you will be hit with a service failure. I learned this when dealing with GRH (which I will never do again and recommend others likewise). I had called asking info about loads he had and was told he would not have definite info until Monday. I had load alerts looking for a load as well as having contacted some of my other agents I use in that area. By midday Monday I still heard nothing so I called him and he said he was still waiting for load numbers. Having dealt with another agent who handles those same loads, I knew that if he had the load he would have had a load number. So I checked with my other agents and was able to book another load out of the same place. As a courtesy I called him back to let him know I had booked another load and he began screaming at me and cussing me out. Then he calls Customer Service who calls me and says I either take his load or get a service failure. He had me on one line while talking to CS on the other and I heard him bald-face lie to CS telling them I had verbally committed to his load; which I had not. Needless, to say, I took his load and it was a nightmare. Though he "100% guaranteed" me the load would be in El Paso when I arrived I ended up waiting 2 hours for its arrival. The it was supposed to be drop and hook at the other end except their were no empties even though he was supposed to have a pool there.

All that to say, let the agent know up front that they have a timeframe to respond or you will be moving on.
