Do you have to register your own company when you sign on with Landstar ?
Do you need a EIN# & Business license or a DBA To operate with them?

Also a plates question, how's that work if anyone knows?
After the trucks inspected , how do you go about getting your base plates from them?
Do you get them at orientation when you go to get your trailer? If So, I assume you just ride down there with your temp plate and get setup down there in Reno?

All things my recruiter can tell me yes I know, just haven't heard back from them in a while

Landstar overnighted my plates, permits to the Werner terminal when i moved over, since they took the plate there when i terminated my contract. You do not need your own business/EIN to sign on.

    OONewbie Thanks this.

The plates and permit package will be overnighted anywhere you want Lanstar to send them. I bought a 2nd truck last year and it took me 3 days to get it leased on and receive the package that includes permits, signs and plates.

Any other advice for a first time O/O and just coming on with Landstar, any advice and how to handle booking loads and working for the right rate on how to go about doing that etc.... any advice would be great.... I'd rather start off informed and educated rather then learning as I go on the road..

Load Alerts. Just make sure you got em set. They'll go over it in orientation but they're very essential in keeping you moving where your not checking the load board every time your done loading to find more freight. In about a year period you'll find out whose the crappy agents and the good agents. Also don't be a afraid to ask for more money, especially if they called and solicited you on the load first. If you feel like the load is more than just ask, all they're going to do is say no at worst.

How long is the lease with Landstar ?
is it open ended meaning you can terminate it anytime you feel like it?
