What we make is no indication what you'll make. I pull step. I've averaged 2.50,2,40 and looks like 2.00 this year for the last three years. That's after LS cut. Can you do that, maybe, maybe not. A lot depends on the lanes you run, the agents you deal with, do you make good decisions, do you learn from your mistakes, do you realize this is a business and know how to operate a business? It's all on you to find or create opportunity.

You think he'd make more pulling general flatbed freight over there or going with the dedicated dry Van?

Hard to say. Great outbound rates on the van loads, but it's at 65%. Platform freight sucks this year, but it pays at 73% if he leases a trailer or has his own. I guess it'd depend on the lanes he'd run pulling flat and how much business savvy he has. The van deal might be better for someone not used to self dispatch as you only have to find half your loads. Plus it's winter!

    TaylorMade407 Thanks this.

He's been doing pretty good on the Van side with booking his own loads since he been there 4 months now. but he's been a flatbedder since he got out of school and he hates Vans Only reason he didn't start off with flats was because him being a new O/O he wanted to keep as much Capitol starting out as possible. He's ready to buy all his equipment now and then this dedicated gig popped up. I think in the long run he'd be better off weathering the storm of open deck right now and go for it and try to build some good relationships with the agents on the open deck side of things. I'll let him know what you said and thanks.

I think the agency code is IXX, it's a special crane trailer pulling crane parts. You have to go to a training class to use the trailer. All miles are paid. Agent is kinda a dick tho...

Depends where you live, where you wanna run, how old your truck is (insurance) and what type of fuel milage you get. I haven't done so great this year and that's a common theme around these parts but the last two years was pretty great and that was being home every weekend running out of Virginia mainly down south pulling a company van
