They such a little amount of freight right now I heard that they are only taking stellar drivers with and immaculate record and credit rating.

Not the best time to join landstar now. It's changed drastically in the last 12 months.

I'm a Owner Operator and im looking to lease my truck on to a Flatbed Company. I was wondering if LandStar use's the Qualcomm Satellite System?
If they do is there any other Flatbed Company that DON'T use Qualcomm?

    Thanks for help.

If you run A/E they keep good track of you. But the average driver doesn't need one.

Every time you call Landstar or they call you, which is rare, they’ll ask you for your location. I give them a guesstamate or proximity. No one but me needs to know where I am when I’m loaded. Just my preference.

You know. No tickets or accidents, no Felonies or misdemeanors/ DUI’s.

But it goes day by day. It’s a numbers thing. They have College Grad’s looking at their statistics and what type of driver will help their insurance and ratings. Then that’s what they go after at the time. Been that way for as long as I’ve known.

THX Brikman, do you know how is LS for teams? Im team and intersted in get more "freedom" and run coast to coast, carriers tend to use teams only as an unlimited hours of service "solo" and we get stressed out. This reason is making me think about this "freedom" ofered by LS to choose your own loads. Do you think this could be a good deal? I talked on the phone with recruiter and been told that they don't have much team freight, my question is: are they flexible with re-scheduling the delivery? I mean, i got a solo load and try to call and deliver it early? THx.

copied and pasted from their site, **note the last paragraph**.....after reading all this over it seems like they have drop their standards since I qualified 7 years ago..

    Minimum Requirements Are:

    • 23 years of age
    • Class A CDL with HazMat (H) or combination (X) endorsement.
    • No more than two at-fault accidents and two motor vehicle violations within the previous 36 months, or no more than one at-fault accident and three motor vehicle violations during the previous 36 months. No involvement in a preventable DOT recordable accident in the past 12 months.
    • Operators must have one year of verifiable over-the-road driving (including snow and ice) within the past three years or three years verifiable experience in the last 10 years, of which six months must be within the previous 48 months, with a Class A CDL using the type of equipment similar to what you will be operating at Landstar.
    • No felony convictions within the past seven years, and not more than one in your lifetime. Misdemeanors are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
    • No positive drug or alcohol test including refusals and pre-employment results.
    • No suspensions of more than 30 days for moving violations in the last 36 months.
    • Proficient enough in English to understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries, make entries on reports and records, and converse with the public.
    • Provide and maintain proper levels and types of approved insurance during your lease with Landstar including:
[IMG] o Unladen Liability and Occupational Accident coverage or, in some cases, statutory Workers' Compensation coverage are mandatory. If you do not participate in the Unladen Liability and/or CPP (Occupational Accident insurance) programs, you must show comparable Unladen Liability coverage and/or Occupational Accident coverage through acceptable insurance carriers.
[IMG] o If statutory Workers' Compensation coverage is required and you do not participate in the fleet workers' compensation plan (FWCP) program, coverage must be provided by licensed carriers with acceptable interstate coverage.

These are minimum operator qualification standards subject to DOT requirements, and Landstar may impose more stringent requirements at its option. The decision whether to qualify an operator will be made by Landstar in its sole discretion and on a case-by-case basis
