Its your truck so I would think pets and rider policy are on you since you pay insurance and its your truck to take care of and clean.

I would hope so, but... insurance seems to be the main thing for passengers. Mine covers now, so I could keep the current insurance and not have to use Landstar's if it didn't cover?

    Pet policy..... its your truck.

Passenger policy is controlled by whose name the operating authority is in.
LS says immediate family members 18 and over. They want their name/info and they
send you a form to fill out and send back for approval.

Landstar allows my thirteen year old son to ride with me for two weeks. I can pick him up in Cali and take the long road home to Texas drop him off and run some more and then pick him up and run back to Cali after spending more time with him in texas.
You have to ask and they will send you the form for authorization.

chricahua, did you say awhile back, that you record your phone calls with agents? If so, what phone/ device do you use to do that?

Yes there are a couple of ways. But for both I use the RCA Digital Voice Recorder RP5022B. You can record off of speaker phone or the Cobra Blue Tooth CB with an external speaker box works better if you're in your truck.

The RCA is digital and comes with a USB cabel that allows you to transfer all recordings over to your laptop/PC. That way you can e-mail the recordings and replay them over the phone via speakerphone.

You'll find that when you specify the date and conversation that LS Cust. service will not want to hear it. However it most likely will go in your favor.

Also on my voicemail message I state that all calls are being recorded for quality service. And when you speak to an agent or LS over the phone you can state that you are driving so you're going to record the conversation so that you can write the details down after you stop.
That way everyone knows that they are being recorded.

You'll start to hear a different tune from most agents and LS cust. service.

But you might run into a few agents that will write your name and truck number down and not give you any loads. (But I think it's best to avoid them.)

In the long run I feel that it gives me less headaches and peace of mind.

And it goes hand in hand with the load sheet that you should have faxed to your truck via E-Fax or something like E-Fax. It's as good as gold.

How do you get to take someone under 18? I was told only 18 or older and my 11 year old is dying to go with me this summer.
