Thats what I am going to be finding out here. I need to find people and see what I can find out from exp with the 17.5s.

To me like Over said, you are just this side of a RGN or a DD. You can haul some fairly tall and very heavy loads with that 3rd axle being on there and being so low with those 17.5s on there. I would just want to find some boxes for the sides that I would not have to worry about scraping at some of these places. As I stated before I work for TMC and I can say that having that nice shiny closed headache rack is AWESOME! I would modify it if I owned it but you can fit so much stuff in there. That is my other thing is storage, I hate having stuff on the deck of the trailer when its not being used. To me its more convenient being in a box and it keeps it out of the snow and ice in the winter also in my opinion it just looks more professional when its all put away.

The guy that I knew said he had no problems with the 17.5's. Sorta like anything else I guess..... you need to go out and put a gauge to em' and make sure that they have the proper inflation. When I first met him, that was my first question..... How do you keep tires on the thing? and then I told him that I asked that question from other drivers that I've heard complaining about that size tire and he laughed and said "What doyou mean? well, any tire run low on air is gonna pop eventually". Now, I know this for myself that that tire is gonna be a little more stressed than a bigger tire with more meat but...... I don't see that tire as being any worse than a super single...... try having a blowout and telling the tire man that you have a super single.... and to make you laugh..... I sure as hell ain't seen a lotta 17.5 gators along the highway!

My wife and I got fingerprinted in late December and it only took two weeks to get the letter from the TSA which is what they told us it would take when we had it done.

One way or the other big fishes eat small fishes.... these days they eat em slow.... like a parasite.
For your own good, remember being more than just a company driver you should be paid respectable according to the liabilities you have been carrying as O/O or small carrier. Instead of remembering good paying loads remember loads that paid bad

So are we to assume you are light in the loafers because you use bad language, put poeple down, and live in SF CA? :biggrin_25522:

I'm thinking about leasing onto Landstar would be running out of central Oklahoma pulling dry van. Can anyone tell me how they are doing pulling van out of this area like mileage they are running, how often they are coming home and money wise?
Thanks in advance for any info to help with the decision.

What's the general list of things you go through starting up with Landstar?

Do they lease you the truck, or do you have to put up a ton of your own money and have starting capital to start out? Seems like that's the biggest risk of all.

I think I'm in a pretty good situation to do something like this if the risk isn't all that great. I live with my parents right now and I'm currently OTR with Swift, so I don't have that much to deal with on the home front as far as bills go. (only insurance on my S-10, phone, mobile internet, and my sirius subscription are the only bills I have)

I've got 13 thousand dollars saved up right now, but I want to use as little of that as possible or not at all.

Plus my parents would kill me if I took out all my money and squandered it all on a failed trucking operation after all the time it took me to get it up that high.

Kind of started banking money faster since I started driving truck with Swift about a year and a half ago, but it seems like it's not fast enough.
