I'm no super trucker. That's just the way I was taught. It's the way I've always worked. Trucking that way just fit in with the way I've been my whole life...

Maybe you don't know this, but this used to be the norm. Driver used to drive when they were awake and sleep when they are sleepy. Now they have to look at their qual com or their log book to know if they are sleepy, hungry, awake, or needing to go 10/200.

And the funny things is, the ones complaining the loudest about the CSA 2010, are the ones that wouldn't dare drive a 12 hour day. (becuase they might miss their TV show at 7pm.

When I was with my second company, they let me do, pretty much, what I wanted.

I'd pick up my load either at Pepsi in Grand Prairie Tx, early Sunday morning. Or if I got lucky, it was already brought to the yard in Dallas for me.
Monday at 10am, I was in Ontario California. They'd wake me up. I'd back into the door, and go back to sleep. They wake me up again, with my paperwork, and I'd head up close to Barstow.I was usually there by 4 or 5 pm. I get a shower, and go to sleep. Then I'd drop and hook with my produce and leave out by midnight. Id drive till I got east of the arkansas scales. Where I'd go to bed, and sleep for about 6 or 8 hours. Then I get up and drive to the phili market on thursday afternoon. Id' go to sleep again until they got me unloaded. Then I drive up to edison NJ, and go back to sleep until my load was ready. And around midnight or 2 am(friday morning) I'd leave out. Id make my drop in Sulphur springs Texas at around 3am or so on Saturday. Then take 19 south to the house. And sleep til I woke up. Spent the rest of the time at home with the kids. And sunday morning early, I do it all over again.
Do that for 3 trips, then take a week off.

That was about 5750 miles a week.

    Do the math. 5750 / 6 days = 958 miles a day.
958 / 62mph. That's about 15.5 hours a day. Which leaves you about 8.5 hours to sleep, shower & eat. I realize that doesn't leave that much time for BS'n in the resturaunt, TV of game room. But I wasn't out there for the scenery.

The difference between the drivers of today and yesterday is, we are in it
to make as much money as we can, from the time we leave home, til the time we get back home.
Todays drivers just don't want to work that hard. And will settle for their $800 a week paycheck.

Super trucker? Compaired to todays stering wheel holders....You may be right.

Funny thing though, that 60something year old man, can still drive me into the ground on any given day.

    Boardhauler and 2Tall Thank this.

And you have 9 years trucking. What makes you think you are a driver of yesterday?

I bet the drivers with 20 or 30 years are laughing at you talking about "yesterday".

Your head will come back down to earth....its waiting to happen.

If I wanted to work 16 hours a day I would get 2 jobs and be home every night. I want some kind of a life while I'm out in the truck.

On the contrary, it's drivers that cow down to the government and their "stupid" regulations is why we have the CSA 2010. Because drivers of today, won't stand up against those that take food from your table and money from your check.

They think it's OK for the government to regulate how much money they make, because the "government makes the roads safer".....
In any other profession, if you work overtime, you get paid extra. In our business, you get fined, shut down and possible out of work.

The government tells you that you can't work extra to provide extra for you and your family. And enough people cow down to that premise that it legitimizes their rule making.

If the government all of a sudden decided to make the roads safer, and restrict you to only an 8 hour day in 24 hours. Meaning if you woke up and started driving at 8am, drove/worked til 5 pm. & You couldn't go back to work until 8 am the next day. Surely that would make the roads safer... Would you stand for that? Why wouldn't you. You've already let them decide for you, that the government can make better decisions that you.

Personally, I like making my own decisions. Doing things my way. From raising my kids to working. I adore liberty. It's what made this country. People with the liberty to make their own decision. Liberty to live. Liberty to breathe the air we want. To eat the food we want. To go where we please. And to work as hard as we want to work so that our families can prosper from our own will. And not the will of the government.

The government's never earned one dime for me. Everything I've got, I've gotten on my own without the governments help.
I don't want their stimulous, bailout, or their rules. If I injure, kill or damage someone else's property, then I'll take what punishment I deserve. But don't punish me before I've done any of those things.

How many personal decisions are you willing to concede to the government?
