Have always done flatbedding and wanting to try something different. I own my trailer so van is a lot cheaper for a brand new trailer and a lot more loads on the board. Just want to see how it works compared to flat

That's cool. I just figured flat rates were so much higher that it wouldn't be worth it. That's why I asked.

They're actually not right now. Trying to even get over 2 a mile with flat is hard then there's 8 flat loads compared to 50 van. More dead head it seems also with flat right now. Tons of back to back loads for the van. I'm keeping my flat in case I hate it though lol I did van back when I was a company driver for 3 yrs and hated it so hoping it's a bit dif being an oo

I've been monitoring flat rates on DAT recently just for the heck of it. Gotta tell ya, I'm not impressed. I'm sure there's exceptions and niches, but certainly not enough for me to give up my cushy window licking o/o gig.

Exactly. Used to be pretty profitable but not too much with what I'm seeing these last couple of years. So anyone own a van got any advice on what I should buy to start out? Not really wanting load bars, hearing they do damage to the side of your trailer so can I get by with straps? How many should I start out with? What else do you think I Need?

I bought 6 straps when I bought my new trailer last spring. 99% of the time only 2 straps are even necessary.

    No problem...

The only other thing I can think of is a good pair of leather gloves, you don't want to develop a callous on your hands from opening and closing those doors ;-)

That's because I'm not going to give you advice on how to compete with me. Go to Schneider.
