I ran flats for years, decided to give van a run for a while. I don't know what area you run in, but from my view, at least for the current market. Regular flat loads are not paying any more than many van loads. Not all, but many. Specialized flat/step or rgn yes, but I'm talking, steel sticks and bricks. There will always be cheap freight, you just have to avoid it and only pull the good stuff.

That's what I'm trying to accomplish also. Kind of the direction I'm heading in hopefully. I hope you have great luck in your adventures

Appreciate your help. We run all over and right now it's hard to find loads for the flat so that's why I'm wanting to try van for a bit. I'm seeing way more van loads than I am flat. I'll keep my flat but going to go ahead and purchase a van so I have the option to switch back if need be.

Park the flat and hook to a company van for a while. Nothing to lose that way.

Keep in mind that when you get your own numbers, MANY brokers/shippers won't do business with you until you get in at least 6 mos or even a year. Running under someone else's authority doesn't count with many of them either.

I have a friend who just got his numbers last month. He's having a hell of a time stringing together good paying freight with his flatbed.

Totally agree. Being leased onto LS sure does relieve quite a headache sometimes. I plan to stay leased onto them.

I only haul 45,000 pound loads of dog food to Denver & SLC. That's all LS has. Everyone go to Schneider. I missed the title of this thread saying anything about recruiting.

There are literally thousands of posts & massive threads boasting from Schneider IC's about the pup trailer neededto haul around all the cash. There are the same amount bashing Landstar.
Why would you even consider Landstar?
