Much, much strife at The Star today on their FB page.
The horror.dwells40 Thanks this. -
@Dave_in_AZ Well it seems I might be actually going to Landstar this time around. They were able to get all my verification's back this time. I took my drug test yesterday and planned on getting the coveted "Landstar DOT" done, however, the one measly inspection site the processor emailed to me doesn't have a Landstar inspector until Tuesday. Is this really all just because it is required to be on Landstar paperwork or do they have a more stringent DOT inspection than that of a level 1?
Was also curious if you know anything about the NTP warranty they offer, in the contract with Landstar? Is it a guaranteed to be covered kind of thing? My truck is a 2013, and I could swear when I got it the guy with NTP said I couldn't get coverage on it once it was 10 years old or older, but they list a price for ten year and older trucks in the contract. Not definite that I will sign up for it, but am curious, if you might know.
Any help good sir? I am hoping that once I get the DOT done I will be setup for orientation and get rolling somewhere I really do dispatch myself, instead of dealing with some agency that wants me to do what they think is best. -
Landstar DOT is more stringent.
Example - brake pads can only be 1/4" minimum. DOT is 1/8".
Only handful of DUDES at any given shop are Landstar qualified inspectors.
I'm not NTP guy. -
Well thank you for the info.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.

After your initial inspection, you can get it done at just about any TA/Petro (check ahead because not all have qualified Landstar inspectors). There is also a list of qualified inspection places (usually truck repair shops) in your "Landstar Online". And the Landstar inspection counts as your DOT, so your DOT annual inspection will be updated every time. You have to get it inspected every 120 days (Landstar pays it as long as you pass), not counting the first one (which is on your dime).

I don't mind that at all. The closest one to me, a TA that is 2 miles away wont have a landstar inspector until tomorrow. I watched some videos of guys who went to do this at TA locations in various areas and the inspector went under there with a can of WD-40 spraying their brakes and what not claiming there was leaking wheels seals. Or at least those people claimed TA sprayed something on the brakes and such. Hope that doesn't happen to me.dwells40 Thanks this.

Well, if they do 1) report it to Landstar. 2) Never go there again.
Its been my experience they will usually over look minor stuff as long as you are going to get it fixed. example: I had a turn signal out, but I couldnt just replace a bulb, I had to replace the whole assembly (Western Star 5700) and it was backordered. I was supposed to have it in a couple of days before I got it inspected and it wasnt in yet. -
I will take your advice for sure if that happens.I wouldn't think the TA here close would do all that stuff. They're usually pretty busy. I can understand the part not coming on time. I'm sure they did too, obviously.

Well I am all setup for orientation Monday. That was surprisingly shorter than what I have heard others having to endure to get approved and all that. Guess it really just all depends on how quick past employers verify employment and all of that, doing the drug test, etc. Looking forward to seeing what that Landstar freedom is all about.
