No, the broker - YOUR broker - is Landstar.
Never ever ever talk to CH Robinson. Thats landstars job. I had a CH Robinson agent call me once asking about a load I had and I just told him to call the guy he contracted with and hung up. He called back, I blocked him. Not your job to talk to other brokers...
You dont want to talk to them because then they can come back and say "well, your DRIVER said this..." when the agent had told him something different, so no no no, dont do it. Do all your communicating through YOUR agent. Thats part of their job.Stringb8n Thanks this. -
At Landstar they're called agents.
A good agent will pay the lumper direct, just make sure to forward the receipt to the agent before you leave the receiver. Send an image by email or text. The amount won't show on your settlement.
A lazy agent will tell you to call customer service where you ask for an express code. Send an image of the receipt to the agent and they'll update your freight bill (increase) and notify you. Still need to transflo the receipt or you get dinged by Landstar. In the later example, look at your next settlement statement and you'll see the amount credited to you and a few lines below the amount will show as a deduct.Stringb8n Thanks this. -
You never pay for lumpers unless you got in an extraordinarily shady deal.
Almost everywhere is using electronic apps now for lumpers.
Call after hours ( main number ) and they will issue you a code for the lumper.
Make sure you save and scan the receipt, or it doesn't exist, and you will eat it. Again most are going electronic. You may have to take a screeny of the receipt, get it printed at Love's, then scan it.
Places that still take comchecks are the same. Just call, tell them you need express code, amount, bada bing, same process.
You can even write one yourself off of your settlement card, I've written hundreds, and they add the whole thing to your trip.
Just make sure you have that receipt. -
Thank you @Dave_in_AZ @Knightcrawler and @dosgatos.
I imagine an HEB distribution center will have one of them electronic loving lumper companies.dwells40 Thanks this. -
They actually work pretty smooth. After hours is ten times faster than normal hours.
Just make sure you do the receipt. On the transflo scan app, there are several choices, BOL, BOL w/ POD, POD, LUMPERS, TOLLS, MISC.
Make sure you write the trip, truck, trailer on it.
Take a wild guess which one it gets scanned under???
Do it correctly, and it's a snap. Do it incorrectly, and it turns into hassle.
This is all part of the learning process.
Here is a free pro tip from The OM- Don't use PC on your log. Just don't use it. The job you save, might be your ownhope not dumb twucker, Stringb8n, Vic Firth and 2 others Thank this. -
In the 5.5 years I have been here, I have only had a place that had lumpers once. Kroger somewhere in Ohio (it was a while ago). When I started in this business in 1984 I worked for Q Carriers (a refer outfit - mainly bringing food to Food Lion, Winn Dixie, ect in the SE) and I tend to avoid any food warehouses like the plague now.
Stringb8n, Vic Firth, dwells40 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I don't even have PC available for some reason. But wouldn't use it anyway, even if I did. Landstar makes it pretty clear that there is pretty much no time it's allowable to them.dwells40 Thanks this.
