Industry trends..... Rates are down so revenue to the truck is down.

Owner ops are bailing as their business fails or they realize they can park it and take home more money doing something else.

Man I’m in the process of signing back up with LS, I’m wanting to use my own van because I hate the drop and hook and go get inspection deal, and I have a midroof and gonna a put a nose cone on front of van. That being said I saw that article above too and I’m getting scared now, can I make it with a new truck and trailer? Been talking to Dave_in_AZ and has helped me out a lot on my decision, I’m in Atlanta,Ga and from all the free load boards it looks pretty cheap getting out from GA. If anyone is from GA can chime in with some encouragement would be nice. Thanks

Would a roof fairing on the sleeper be appropriate?

I've been out of LS for 4 years or so, my opinions may be dated. I also tried to stay west of I15 unless appropriately bribed.

I started with a LS box trailer and ran with those for 6 months. The one that drove me over the edge was a 2 month old (from the Manufacturer's plate) trailer that Landstar leased which had spring ride. Had to drop out of 3 good loads I had lined up (Air ride required) because of that trailer.

Another point I considered was how few drop and hook loads I was doing. Had a hard time finding a descent paying drop and hook loads. Live loads just seemed to pay a bit better. The trailer percentage pay was the icing on the cake, I figure it generated about $1000 a month in revenue.

Only SNAFU I ran into with running my own trailer was when the truck broke down and had to have another BCO run my trailer to the receiver and return it.

well at least you'll get paying loads home. there are paying loads out of atlanta but you have to know the lanes and agents and day of the week to call. not on the board

Thanks dosgatos, I was with LS for seven years but I ran a reefer, sold it got my own authority but fell and broke my back off my hopper trailer so I had to sell it, so coming back home, got some agents I’ve worked with out of Ga me being out of work until the first of the year with my back don’t have a lot of time to gamble if you know what I mean lol
