Just did my CABS class couple months ago, not the one after six months. I gave them my honest feedback that it was a total waste of time and didn't even cover fuel with fuel so high. During the class, the hazmat test was short but after the class, you are required to do it online by due date.

In any case, told them the 120 is redundant and FMCSA only requires it once a year so it should only be done once a year. Also, that they are taking too much percentage out of the drivers. They said they read my feedback and got an email response back about a month after and they said they will start doing CABS class online in the future and that by the time I have to do it again, it would be completely online. Maybe they can get rid of the 120 and do it only yearly also and taking less percentage now.

The 120 day inspection for company van trailers is to long in my opinion. Most every one I hooked to had OOS type violations so ended up taking them in for an inspection and repairs. Was the primary motivator for me to buy my own trailer.

Unfortunately I would not trust the vast majority of the driver pool at Landstar to do a thorough inspection even monthly. I view the 120 as about the max between third party inspections. I would actually prefer they bring it in to quarterly, or even 60 day, inspections to to help keep the CSA score from getting any worse.

I would have to disagree with your statement. Yearly inspection is good. We don't need a 120 inspection, when a trailer is not DOT compliant then the BCO should take it in to get it repaired, unfortunately, that eats up the BCOs time that they are not getting compensated for doing so. Perhaps, Landstar should compensate BCO for doing the right thing to get it repaired instead. But, the inspection doesn't need to be every 120 days.

As far as tractor inspection, just because you have it inspected more often doesn't mean that you won't breakdown at anytime. If you feel you need to have your tractor inspected more often, then by all means do so but having it more often doesn't mean lowering CSA scores. It just takes up BCOs time to generate revenue for themselves and for Landstar. Especially, when the 120 needs to be done specifically by a Landstar inspector and not just any place where they do DOT inspections.

    Interesting phenomenon.

There's a couple agents I've known for quite awhile now, still never get the real story from them...........but for the size of their offices and the amount of freight they broker to BC0's, the math never supported their claims of they don't outsource much.

Now.... BEHOLD...... SCOTUS ruling and here's all this freight just popping up.

This is purely coincidence mind you. And a lot of it pays pretty freaking good.

There are those thinking this is going to be a second Happy Time. I am very cautious on the outlook on that.

Rates have increased, but they would need to DOUBLE to get back to the Happy Time level.

What has DOUBLED is the cost of doing business. In every aspect.

You ain't wrong, for the entirety of may, I have not moved a load under 4$ a mile, even loads coming out of Florida are at 3 to 4 $, that is absolutely unheard of, where was all this freight before?

Also the total loads on the landstar board has absolutely skyrocketed. I think I once saw as much as almost 200,000 total loads posted a couple of weeks ago. This was as close as it was to during covid, the difference is during covid, landstar had double the trucks than they have now.
