I blame landstar orientation for your dilemma .
They have a printed graph they hand out that tells drivers to calculate expenses and see what your rate per mile is .
It's all about covering their cheep freight .
I won't haul a load that's less then 2$ a mile on the load board and won't go somewhere where that freight is all you get.
Try figuring out your cost per mile , and work to push your cost per mile as low as you can .
then pay yourself 1$ per mile and that's your rate , now find lanes where you can average that rate on round trips .
You may only run a little over half 124k miles per year but I think you will make more profit

I miss Arizona.
Lots of good food.
Gah, I need to visit. Arizona ruined me for winters back east. It gets to 60 an I'm dressed like a freaking Eskimo. ha!
I wish I could remember the name of the lil Mexican resturant I'd hit in Tucson. Small little join, in a shopping center if I recall. I think they put the In n Out near it...it's been awhile. Once you have real Mexican food, the American version will never be the same for you again. Fresh tortillas, fresh salsa..homemade chips...
Be safe!
An have a taco, or 12 for me, an at lest double that order of bacon. Or..or...I'll send snow your way!

Most I drove in one year was 100K... And that was the year I netted 70K... I was home every weekend and times during the week on occasion. 2014 freight market was insaneeeeee, and I slurped it up. Even in 2015 when things went south still did 63K while doing 92K miles... Freight was there.
Its plenty of folks who did better than me because I like to go home... I knew a cat who made 230K after LS cut pulling a van last year -
I found out quick that graph was bscsmith1281 and whoopNride Thank this.

So far today in Texas there has been a nice 900 mph head wind for about 200 miles.
Then there was a roll over in the median, single big truck.
Then just about 10 miles before I just stopped some lady hit this large dog, and it almost caused an accident, probably has by now, her car is wasted, and doggie had one back leg still kicking, and might be alright if gets over the terrible headache he probably has.
Fuel is outrageously expensive.
I forget why I don't come here.blairandgretchen and csmith1281 Thank this. -
LoL. Wait till you get to Dallas and start looking at the dirt cheap rates out of there. You will surely remember why you don't go there.
You should be ok, there are usually good loads going back West. Coming back East is what stinks.blairandgretchen and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
Oh I had the load back booked before I left. And the load after that one, and the load after that one.
whoopNride Thanks this. -
I spend lots of time with the board. There is stuff out of there, but it depends where you're willing to go. One of the reasons I took this load is it picked up like 4 miles from the house, and it's actually above my minimum, which very, very few loads to Texas are, and then there was a load right back to SoCal.blairandgretchen and csmith1281 Thank this.

Oh there are plenty of loads out there. Most go back West. I don't normally go out there anyway. Loads coming back East are cheap and I don't haul cheap freight. If I go there I plan to DH to Shreveport, I can get good $ from there.
csmith1281, W9onTime and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.
