In 2015, FMCSA issued a mandate that immediately put all independent contractors into the ranks of the employee.
The ELD mandate gives carriers the ability to micromanage both company employees and independent contractors with the device called an ELD. And not just any electronic logging device, but only very specific models, the ones sold and controlled by vendors, like Qualcomm/Omnitracs.
These specific ELDs give carriers the ability to track drivers, to demand location reports, demand explanations for situations like hard braking and rest area breaks, demand they use only certain devices controlled by the vendors and to demand drivers pay monthly fees for these specific devices just to perform their job. They also provide the vendors with over a Billion dollars in fees per year and provide the carriers the ability to falsify the work hours of all drivers.

 

OOIDA took LS to court for the Fuel Surchage deal for military loads, the relationship been sour since then and probably was before that so no, LS doesn't accept their insurance

LS and Mercer doesn't do this so it's irrelevant... and Swift got nailed because of their lease drivers and contracts with said lease purchase drivers

A lot of companies are making drivers put in ELD for compliance and compliance only... LS only bother us when we went extremely over our hours and that was maybe once or twice. There's more companies out there than the Swifts and J.Bs of the world bro.
