100 is better than 72 it's just math ha ha . As far as " more expenses " if you mean a newer truck , generally the benefits are : depreciation , trade in value , less downtime , better fuel economy ( generally ) and far less maintenance cost . Even with a paid off truck you have costs related to maintenance

Of course I put money away every week. That was pre-tax. I also put funds in a savings account to cover my taxes. The net I was referring to was net to the truck after expenses.

I read about an over dimension guy at LS who was featured in a trucking magazine who put away 750 dollars a week just for taxes , he made that much ..

You don't know what you're talking about. I'm not working for 72% of anything, pay attention, that's what Covenant Solutions o/o get pulling Covenant trailers. Have you looked at insurance costs recently? It's very expensive to open up new authority or re-activate old one. Even more so than a couple of years ago. There's a lot of reasons for why I see value in my lease. I'm not going to write a book for you or anyone else been posting here for years most of the info is already out there.

After finding out about Landstar's Sitting Duck Policy, I'm in a real quandary. I take a diuretic and that means when I have to go, I need to find a spot soon. With Landstar's policy I could end up without a lease in a hurry. In addition there are a lot of times that even though you thought you had your route to the customer well planned, you get there and find your route won't work because of a light bridge, construction detour, or other problem and now you have to reroute. Then you have the customers that tell you to park on the edge of the road and all the trucks are lined up on the shoulder.

On the other side, I am at the point that I want a business that will last beyond me and that means adding trucks. At Schneider that won't work since I will only be looking at $1.32 a mile to the truck. I'm not ready to run my own authority yet, but that might be what I have to look at long term.

If you're at a customer, you're fine. LS sitting duck policy is towards parking on exit ramps overnight or long period of times.

I always thought parking on the shoulder dangerous, I will go over my 11/14 if I ran into a problem looking for parking, I will not park on a ramp overnight

If you add additional trucks at Schneider they have to go on the mileage pay board, only the truck you drive can be on the Choice board.

If you're caught by any means parked on the shoulder of an off ramp your lease is terminated. Basically if you're just sleeping on the exit ramp.Which I can understand, if you have a breakdown you're covered, just no unnecessary parking on an exit ramp
