No truth to what ? Rate negotiations
-
Yes you can negotiate rates. Two loads ago, I called about a load from baltimore to knoxville. It was posted at $1600, it took 2 days but I got $1900 from the agent .My next load from knoxville to charlotte, I couldn't get her to move up on the $ but, she did break out extra $ for things which in turn increased my RPM .. Just because you can't negotiate rates doesn't mean you can't .
-
Correct. I set my price for the load with my number one agent. My number two agent, this year, is the same way. There is more involved in running your business here, but it is your business. You have to decide how involved you want to be. I live in one of the worst markets in the country, make great money, home all the time (slept in the truck 100 nights last year, worked about 200 days). It is what you make it. The opportunity is here for o/o that provide service and communication, something a majority of truck drivers cannot. The drop and hook commodity megas will always have cheap rates as it's the easiest trucking segment out there. We have an agent looking for folks to haul crane van trailers with 2008+ trucks. The rates are $$$$. We have folks that haul blanket wrap, we have folks that haul trade shows, we have folks that haul operas, plays, and musical acts. We also have folks that haul toilet paper. Which do you think pays more? I pull platform, but I leave that lumber and steel to the Boyd's and Mavericks, as that's cheap. I'd rather haul a helicopter simulator, or electrical equipment, the stuff that pays better.Hegemeister, milskired and Jar-Head Thank this.

Yeah I had heard you can get them to move more money over to fuel etc to up the rare to the BCO
-
Well said! Some agents ask you for a price(bid) you will do it for others(and you will learn who they are) have good customers who pay well to begin with, and then I have some agents who call out of the blue and let me know what they have because I've been dealing with them for so long...
-
I did SNI Choice and the program itself is pretty cool. Its clear what the rates are etc. I just think the only funny thing about driving as an O O for a company that also has company trucks is that they will always give the higher paying lighter loads to company drivers first. This is a complaint I've heard from other drivers that lease to companies with company drivers as well. Business wise it makes sense for them to do that I mean why not? But that is where it makes sense to go with a company that runs all O O like LS or say Mercer because they have no reason to give you all the #### loads. MHO

Lets be honest with JarHead tho DIP. Those loads or any loads going into the northeast pay 2 dollars plus.. but coming back out of that hellhole? Well lets just say if you can make fuel and cost.. consider yourself lucky. Let me post some loads for you that are more diverse.. give me a few minutes -

So at the end you will see what the load pays and the lesser number is what you will actually get paid considering the empty miles you will drive to get that load from Paducah. I am showing you some realistic loads to locations that will actually get you some good paying loads coming back out. If you go into the northeast man they pay good going in but its #### driving in that traffic hellhole day or night and second the shippers and recievers are pricks most the times and third its cheap #### coming back out of there.
