If agents have their own trucks why would they post a load?

Maybe as a lease op you may not have seen a difference and where your running stayed pretty good this year most lightly due to the tougher than normal winter but as far as the left coast and Landstar rates to owner op's, well there worse than TQL! Go on a loadboard and take a look for yourself! Landstar are paying less than anybody else. I can also tell you they are not charging the shippers less than anyone else though!

We get the same rates... the stuff thats on the board is stuff BCO's (Landstar O/O) dont want... Actually agents make more money when an outside carrier takes the load, thats what several agents have told me anyway

It is wrong to say they are loads BCO's don't want. The agent doesn't have to give our to a BCO. Like you said, they can make Moore brokering. I talked to a lot of agency owners when considering LS as an agent. Some only want to use BCO's (typically smaller old timers) and some would rather broker outside.

Key is, BCO or pride carrier, to get a relationship with good agents so you get the call before loads are posted.

They "can make more off brokered" but they don't always do it. Had that discussion with current and former LS agents before. Corporate gets their same cut regardless who wins loses agent versus outside carrier. There are some agents who prefer outside versus BCO and vice versa. And they are not always cheap freight agents who like working with outside. One of the best LS agents I worked with told me it was never about price with my truck. The prices which were way over the top compared to average were of little concern the freight HAD to be on time and I always delivered. Over the top rates bought her and the customer nights without losing sleep and over the top first rate communication from me on every load. She never lost money either, understand a broker with good freight does not lose money, they ask the customer for more and thecustomer pays... some loads will post inside and outside as a matter of routine depending on parameters the agent sets up. Good stuff as well as bad. Obviously the good stuff rarely lasts. When it does it keeps going up in price until a load is covered. The old "only crappy stuff gets brokered" is largely true but not spot on 100% of the time. One has to put effort into finding the good stuff it goes on there daily, somewhere.... had great success with Landstar as an outside carrier for about 18 months but have moved on to better things. In the last year I've done one load for them. And that's not because I couldn't get a rate from them. It's mostly because i don't have a problem loading the truck from many sources. At one time they were my go to only egg in the basket.

Corporate gets their cut. BCO gets their cut. If the agent uses a "LS approved carrier" then the agent can pay the carrier whatever they want. Usually it will be less than what they would have to pay the BCO, but not always (as Rollin Coal has explained).

I have hauled some lds. for Landstar. I have gotten what I wanted. There were some lds. way to cheap and they would not budge. I did'nt haul them..
What gets me is some, Not all of the agents that are double brokering and corprate lets them do it, no problem. We are getting our cut. That's the way it seems to me..
