There's a local landstar office where the employees are trained to pull stuff off load boards and get freight from ch Robinson , slice at least 10% and repost it on load boards
i don't see what landstar would allow that and it's a shame for the honest agents they do have

If they do nothing but Hazmat then I know THE EXACT agency you're referring too
-
It's a shame. I know landstar is a good outfit & personally don't think they should allow those back alley shenanigans
-
Yeah, thats the only negative I have with Landstar... you could have one load posted by 4 different agents all with different rates. Most of the time loads like that are doubled brokered and the agent is trying to bleed it for every buck they can getFoxcover Thanks this.
-
Thats exactly what I'm talking about. Hence Landstar rates being worse than TQL or the likes!
Its a pity, they used to pay a fair rate. Now just like TQL or Straight, if I see a Landstar load on the board I don't even waste my time calling about it. -
It's not doubled, they are getting list from shippers that blast them out. Figure the shipper and you can get on the list.Bigdubber and pearcetrucking Thank this.

I've pulled two loads before that have been posted like that where it was posted by 2 more different agencies. On both of those occasions not only did I get phone calls from the agency I got check calls from the broker they brokered it from. One was from C.H Robinson, the other was from some Brokerage in Texas. Can explain that? Do C.H. Robinson or that Brokerage handles freight for that shipper? Then does that not qualify as being double broker?
I will say this, I always get load alerts whenever I deliver in the Spartansburg, SC area from Greensville, TN with an apparent Water Bottling plant. (Load description says Water) 3 or 4 agencies will post the same load out that place, I can see it happening there. -
All I can say is when I would see different LS agents posting the same load it seemed to always be off of the same list that I got from the shipper. Shipper had cheap rates so you can imagine how bad the broker rates was. And it wasn't just LS posting the load. On some Menards loads or mulch loads I could have 20 different brokers posting the same load.
As far as "double brokering" - many us the term as if the broker is brokering a load they aren't allowed to broker. From my dealings with LS I have found that they take a very hard line on this. If someone re-brokers a load it is with permission.
I have also found the agencies that do this don't have the rates I was looking for but I know a lot of drivers that will only haul for a couple brokers. -
You may or may not know Recently, Landstar added a "direct shipper" column to the BCO load board. It either has a Y for Direct Shipper or N for Not (Self Explanatory)... Direct Shipper if the Agency deals with directly with the shipper or No they go thru another source. That's what I was told in CABS class. I will say majority of the freight on the board is labeled "N"
Oddly enough on the broker board they can broker out other agencies "direct freight". It Actually has an column on the broad for the agencies if the freight is "Brokerable" or not.
Now, the scenario you brought earlier about the shipper sending out the freight to various folks, could shippers could be sending it a few Landstar agents and since it's not Contract freight it could be classified as "N". Could be, just a thought. Be like i said, there has been those two times where I've had check calls by 2 different people on a load. So I do know double brokering of some sort goes on over here...BigBadBill Thanks this. -
Well as a LS BCO that wouldn't be considered double brokering. LS is the carrier and the broker is sending it to LS via an agent. But if they put it on my truck then it is. If it is allowed or not is dependent on the contract with the other broker. I do know that some agents don't care about the rules and we have gotten caught up on a few of those. Likely direct freight but freight that wasn't supposed to be brokered.
My gut is that if the agency doesn't have a contract for the freight it isn't considered direct freight. When we discussed becoming an agent these accounts didn't need to be disclosed.hawkjr Thanks this.
