Ok, I'm jumping in, .... Why isn't there a co-op going by now. Brokers take a flat 10% and pass the rest to the owner operators within the co-op.

Fire at will, I can take it.

Landstar hauls EVERYBODY'S freight.... If there are lots of loads available and FEW trucks, rates will be HIGH... if there a lot of trucks available and only a few loads available, rates will suck. Hauling other companies' freight can be EXTREMELY profitable when they get in a bind to move it... the rates can go "through the roof"... especially in automotive.

There are agents at landstar that specialize in posting available freight from companies like CH Robinson et. al. Normally you can take those rates, divide them by your percentate, mine is .735% and that will tell you the rate you can expect to get our of an area....

Example: agent GWQ has a load posted for 1.50 per mile .... since that agent is well known for reposting other companies' loads, you assume that is just another repost.... if there isn't a better load that you see presently on the board, then one could safely assume that it's not "pie in the sky" to WAIT a while because real, typical, non-complicated, non-expedited freight out of that area is probably running for about 1.80 - 2.00 a mile ....

With the re-posting agents, you can always call them and say, I see you have a load from A to B posted. I am available for it if they decide to pay "x" amount... Thanks... Bye.

The really high dollar loads, if posted at all, are only on the load board at Landstar for a few seconds. Someone will snag them and the agent takes them down (usually) immediately so drivers don't keep bothering them.

From 2009 to 2010 , I hauled natural gas previous to that for JBK and they lost their contract to Clean Energy. I liked LS but at the time the rates were way down because of the economic downturn

How will becoming a co op change anything other than most likely having an annual fee? Don't they all just take 10 percent already and not a penny more? Some even less so they say. I don't really care what there cut is as long as I am happy with mine
