Been driving for almost 11 years. Last 2 and a half with Landstar. I have never seen the rates this high. Better get while the getting's good. But I have heard the rates will only go up from here. Perfect storm of older drivers retiring rather than comply with ELD mandate, and also some Canadian drivers will not come down here because their ELD mandate doesn't land until 2018 or 2019. And baby boomers are retiring now. I'm taking off Thanksgiving and Christmas only. And running every other day until the spring. Don't know how long this will last. Every agent who calls me I ask for $500 more. Almost all come back with a higher rate. They are starving for trucks. There are 4000 out of the 35,00 loads on the board paying $4 per mile or more. I've never seen that before. Yes most are shorter hops but there are some $4/mile thousand mile loads. I wouldn't want to be an agent in this environment.

    Dog,
Wow. dont forget the economy is better too, up to 3 percent. Also some who hate trucking may finally be able to return to old jobs or other jobs, further shorting the industry of drivers. this will only quicken the autonomous driving industry.

Great point. The Trump economy is on fire. Last quarter 3.2% GDP growth. Obama never tasted 3% GDP growth in any of his 32 quarters.

With regards to autonomous i couldn't agree more. It is coming, way sooner than people think. In 7-10 years 3 million truckers will be out of a job and need new industries. Doesn't bother me at all. Three years ago i decided to buy the stocks of the biggest threats to my livelyhood. And i've been buying them ever since. Apple, Amazon, Google, and Tesla. All 4 are working on autonomous, either hardware or software. If they are gonna end my career at least i will get rich as they do it.

If there’s one thing this industry will never be short of, it’s the doom & gloom, doubting Thomas’
Contrary to popular belief, autonomous trucks will not be so autonomous. There are so many variables where a driver will still need to be present with the vehicle, it’s ridiculous. But don’t take my word for it. Research autonomous trucks and see for yourselves.
