Lane Rate per mile check?

    I don't know why that's so hard to believe. I run flatbed and about 30% of my loads are partials so they pay much better. It's a lot of work but $3 a mile isn't impossible, there are guys on here that are making even more than that. Just last week I moved a heavy rotor 1800 miles for $6700. The loads are out there, they just take some work to find sometimes. But partials I the reason it's near $3 for me, if it wasn't for them, my average would be about $2.30 or so for full loads.

    For the love of God would you flatbed and OD guys stop comparing your rates to dry van rates?? Good Lord. Check out the latest DAT van rates then try your claim guys are failing if they aren't getting 2/mile for all miles. It's just ridiculous.

    Even so, it is not pay per mile contest, as far as I am concerned. At the end of the day, what matters is how thick is your wallet. Who cares about 3 dol per mile if it means 250 days away from home and 67k cleared at the end of the year?
    Better to show/brag about how much someone is able to clear per year after costs and before taxes. If it is over 100K it is ok. Anything less, I don't care if you got 4 bucks a mile and end up earning 75k. Too little. I am saying that I prefer to run 135 miles a year and clear 100K at 1.40 a mile from running 50k a year at 3 dol a mile clearing 75k.

    My truck parking neighbor averages $2 under his authority swinging doors, and he lives in FL. I've seen his outbound load conf's so it's no BS. This thread had no door swinger qualifier, either. When I lived in PA pulling van, I was above $2. Nobody said anyone was failing under $2, just that they are probably bringing the industry average down with their lack of salesmanship. I'm actually glad the 1.75folks use brokers primarily. The brokers might be making $1 a mile off them, but at least the customer doesn't think everyone runs for 1.75.

    DAT rates don't mean ####. Their flatbed spot rate is $2.12 right now. I'm not saying that's horrible but most decent companies should be able to get much more than that. I would think that most van companies would be able to get at least $2 as well. DAT spot is just a reference, nothing set in stone.

    I would take clearing $75k in that scenario everytime. Neither is great but working so hard for so little no thanks. People believe whatever they want to believe. OP asked what was a good lane. Not what is a good average to a truck. Like some of us were saying it's been difficult to find somewhere that was a bad lane this week. I think its just temporary but would sure love to see it stay this way.
