Reverend, I sure appreciate the detailed info, that's a great help to me, never having owned a laptop. The durability was a big thing to me, because the ride can get rough at times.

I'm glad to know that I can get what I'm looking for for under $1000.00. I figured that I would have to spend at least $1500.00, so I pretty relieved.

By the way, I see you're out of Wadena. I live in Duluth, so hello from the head of Lake Superior.

Thanks again for all your help.

Your Welcome. And Hello from Wadena. Was up in Duluth just this past sumer helping the inlaws move from their to Alexandria. Nice town, and a great view of the lake. And actualy I knowthe trucking company that hauls auto parts to the auto stores up there, watch out for those guys. Good luck hunting. Let us know what you got.

If you like Dell, Give them a call BEFORE you buy online. You can get additional savings just by calling in first.

I saved around $150 dollars off the price of their website prices just by calling them.

I have a 1501 with the AMD processor, I plan on using it when I get back out on the road. I have 2GHz, 1 GB ram, 80GB HD, DVD Burner

I don't like dell and hate there service.

I always had good luck with toshiba and best buy has a bice package on sale for under $1000 and it has the 17 inch widescreen which is nice for watching movies on.
Plus I think they are offering free cannon printer and wireless router (after mail in rebate)

Well, I don't have 3 to 5k to spend, so I'm looking at the Dells. I sure appreciate all the responses to my questions.

I'd look at a gateway long before a dell. Look at circuitcitys website they are about the cheapest you'll find and they have a real nice gateway for $669 it has a dvd player but not burner though.
Gateway is all function without the frills and sleek cases most have these days that you pay alot for.

I still recomend the toshiba satalite. I'm either buying that gateway I mentioned or a toshiba p105-S6174 which they have for $949 but it was cheaper last week so mabey I can still get the sale price. They are offering a photo printer, and router of free after mail in rebate with that one too.

the hp pavilion is a good deal but I won't touch hp with a 10 foot poll. there hardware is good but there software is super glitchy.
