tablets are nothing more then an overhyped NETBOOK. (small laptop).

if you want something small. get a netbook. at least it'll have a keyboard to type on.

with a laptop though. he can watch dvd's. as they have a rom drive.

like the above posts mention. tablets are expensive overhyped equipment with less functionality.

wifi is a basic thing that every electronics have now a days. if you get the proper phone. with mobile hotspot. you won't need to pay for an air card and the more expensive internet fee.

I use both, I have the 7" Samsung Tablet (dash mountable), I get multiple uses from it. Finding oil wells and dirt roads with the google GPS app that came on it, made it well worth the money, IMO. The service is Verizons network and I can hotspot, wifi, bluetooth or connect direct to my notebook. I use the notebook for downtime to watch movies or just a bigger screen for surfing the web or playing games.

The only problem I've had, was the service with Verizon. Some of it has to do with being in desolate places but in some places. I should have had good service and had none at all. The GPS still worked in those desolate places, which is what I really needed. I did not want to buy a another electronic gadget. Overall, this works for me.......

Laptops IMO are a pain in the butt. Always having to boot them up, digging the charger hooking up the wifi (if its not built in), to bulky to play with on the steering wheel. Reboot reboot reboot reboot reboot.

My tablet stays charged for 3 days every time. I grab it, and start surfing, two seconds is all it takes to start using. I purchased an IPAD which I really like with one rather large exception, no flash! I dont know what Apple was thinking, and im really considering getting a non apple tablet.

My apple has only required ONE reboot since I have owned it, and that was the day I purchased it and did the OS upgrade. It works flawlessly...

With that being said, I still have my old laptop in the truck as a back up. I haven't touched it in months now...

Laptops are a pain. I agree with above poster.

I only use mine for watching DVD's.

I went with a Kindle Fire. Pretty cheap and I can't think of anything I have been more happy with for the money in a long time.

Really it depends on what he will use it for. Printing for example or scanning and emailing freight bills, is impossible for me with my Motorola Xoom tablet, so I use a laptop. However, my tablet is super fast, lightweight, can take it anywhere, and it doesn't need to be plugged in every couple of hours! I leave the hotspot on when I need internet for my laptop. As far as Netflix goes, I use neither!!! I bought the new Droid Razor Max which has an HDMI slot built in. I have unlimited data on my phone, so I just plug the cable from my phone to my flat screen tv and watch Netflix on the big screen without worrying at all about data usage!

As an owner/operator I think a laptop is a must. As a company driver, I think a tablet would work better so long as he had some other way of watching movies. Personally, since I have to print, copy, scan and email daily from the cab of my truck, a cheap printer and laptop are essential tools for me.
