I still have my original laptop I purchased (from DELL) 12 years ago. It still runs. I still have every other laptop I purchased (from DELL) since then as well. They ALL still run.
Well, except for one I returned because every time DELL worked on it, it got worse and they replaced it.
I would have every desktop as well, but I give the older ones away to kids in my neighborhood.......and hope they don't swap them for drugs.
I just built a PC (for less than $1000) that would have cost over $6000 for a comparable unit (in processor speed, RAM and storage space) from Apple.
The biggest problem with PCs is and always has been "Security" issues. That isn't an issue if you watch where you go and what you do.

I would never insult a man and tell him his "truck was junk".......as long as it did the job it was intended for. But that is just MY "perspective".

So it has to be mounted even if you use it in the sleeper when your not driving? I can see if you use it for a navigator and have it mounted by the drivers seat, but if I don't use it until I stop can it just sit on the bunk or in a bag?

I went with a Dell, thru Best Buy, so I can go to any store in the country if I would need simple service.
I was with AT&T for many years, and have much better coverage now with Verizon. Instead of buying a seperate air card and buying time for it, I got a package deal to tether my Blackberry to my laptop.

I did not know you could do that. I am looking at getting a blackberry anyways so that may be the way I can go.

No, sorry for not saying that clearer. If you are just using it in the sleeper then they don't care how you have it as long as it isn't "laying" on the seat next to you while driving. I was referring to those who use MS Streets, CoPilot, Street Atlas, or some other form of navigation. Or if your use Eclipse, DDL, or some other form of log when you are actually driving.

They started cracking down (especially in New Mexico for some odd reason) about laptops and GPS's not being "secured" properly. Their reasoning on the citations is that these objects become "projectiles" in the event of hard-braking or and accident.

    * side note. If you DO have it up there anywhere near you while you are driving, you'd be wise to have SOME logical reason because they have a "driving distracted" ticket in several states now because of drivers being caught watching DVD's on it while driving down the road. If you have a log or GPS on it then they usually won't bust your stones if it's properly mounted.

I have mine seat belted in. If they want to prove it's unsecured, they have to prove in court that I am unsecured when I'm seat belted. That should be fun anyway.

New Mexico was giving out tickets one day a couple years ago to every driver that had a laptop in front, no matter the reason. That lasted half a day till someone from higher up heard about it, called them, and tore the guys at the scale a new one. Guess they have short memories out there.

I mean junk yard. not junk year. and i wouldnt tell anyone anything they had was junk either. Other than the analogy there.

I've built many pcs over the years as well. have had 4 different laptops. i have a music studio and a video production setup, and i've always strived to get and build better equipment

for my money, mac far outweighs. from the operating sys. and software to the hardware.

even the great feature of the magnetic power cord. its a no brainer, trip over the cord and it releases instead of bringing down your laptop and breaking it.

If you like pcs, cool, happy for ya. i used to. now i prefer macs :)

i think everyone should form their own opinion.

    Bullcrap!
Thats EXACTLY what you said here:
I used to sit on the washer during the SPIN CYCLE too...

Who cares...that wasn't the topic of this thread, now was it? The OP had a legitimate question, and you feel it necessary to demean anyone who uses a PC, rather than that "uppity" over-priced MAC that you use.

That wasn't his question either. Let's stick to topic.........
