I have a 700 watt microwave that I got from walmart. I have a 5 day cooler from Coleman that uses Ice. I also have the 12v lunch box cooker in case the microwave goes out.
I cook every night and also have a coffee maker for coffee every morning.
It is so much cheaper to eat out of the truck and you can not depend that a truck stop will have a microwave...I like to be totally independent!

The output of the microwave does not matter you need to look on the back of any appliance you plan to use and do the volts x amps as listed on the back of the appliance this is how you will know how many watts it will use not how many it puts out.

All I know is that it was the smallest one that they had and as long as I run the truck when I use it, it works fine.

I had a small micro, small refig and a toaster I ran from a 1000w power inverter. I couldn’t run everything at once, however I didn’t have to turn off the refig to use the micro. I also carried 5 weeks of food and water from home so I rarely ever ate out. I ran an 2007 Freightliner and had to remove the cabinet behind my seat to install them. I just put the cabinet back in when I left that truck. Hot coffee every morning before even getting out of bed.

I do the same have been out on the road for 28 years now. I can only eat so much truck stop food so I mostly cook for myself on the weekend and then freeze it to take with me. I have a 2000watt (continuos ) inverter and it will run my micro, coffee maker and toaster at the same time

It depends on what kind of apu you have. I had a Rig Master and I could run a small fridge, a microwave, and a coffee maker all at the same time. But that only works when the apu is running. So I had a 2500 watt inverter that I used while going down the road.

    morr2fab Thanks this.

I'm looking at Smith and they have the same thing. I was told I wouldnt need an inverter, I forgot the apu doesnt run when the truck is. So I would need one. They say I can put one in the truck.

I find that my 2 best friends in the truck on the road are a 12V Coleman iceless cooler (the 40 qt one) and a Burton Stove To Go. If ya get creative then you can make all kindsa stuff. Soup or Chef Boyardee is super easy...just pop the can open n drop it in the Burton n an hour later its ready to pour into your plastic throw away bowl. I do it all the time.
With these 2 things you dont need an inverter, just 2 spare 12V sockets. Be careful not to use a splitter otherwise you will overload the circuit and blow the fuse everytime. Use one socket in the bunk and one on the dash...happy highway gourmet eating!

"Chef Boyardee"?. I wouldnt eat that crap when I was a kid. I gues I'm lucky, I have frozen home made meals and my fridge is down cold enough to keep it frozen. I need an inverter for that.

We have a 700w micro in the truck and it runs great even without the truck running. Had a 40qt coleman cooler for about 1 1/2 years then upgraded to a real fridge with a small freezer. We use a small portable gas grill in warmer weather. Although he has been known to grill pork chops when it was snowing. It stores in the tarp box.
