Not everybody has to do that . Some employers know you're a human being . Try to find a small carrier owned by a former driver that has reasonable expectations .

Your right not all companys will be like that, but most are. My dad drove for almost 40 years for small and big companys but there a very few that will allow you to only drive in daylight. If I wanted I could refuse a load and wait untill another comes up, but most new drivers have no choice. Myself, I don't refuse loads very often and in return I keep moving more then most guys I work with. When I got home this last time around I checked on a small company that has ask me to drive for them for about 3 months, when I decided to go see what's up, they went bankrupt. This is after he said he would pay me .42 per mile, and he was a former driver. With the economy as bad as it is Iam not going anywhere for a while, a smaller company is not always the best move in the hard times we are in. Yourself, you know by being there for a longtime how your company is doing, for a new guy there is not much choice most of the time.

I worked for a place that regularly ran socal to Reno, nv. Took every bit of 10 hours to make it. This company wanted me to leave so cal at about 4-5 in the afternoon, deliver in reno at 5am next morning, reload down the road by 8am (never got out before noon) and had to deliver los angeles by 4 the next morning. That was the trip. This "company" had only 5 trucks, and the dispatcher/boss/daughter of the owner got out there and ran it too. Now, I was always legal, my fuel times and everything always matched. The point is, not always do "small companies" understand this "human" fact. Sometimes it was this companies excuse to run even harder. "We can't absorb the cost like the big companies can, keep going"

I started working on getting more sleep and I tried the 5-hour and like it, so I think I got it down now. As long as I am getting about 6-7 hours of sleep I feel a lot better

heres how it goes... those energy drinks are junk... and lead to kidney stones... yeah 25 and i suffer cause of them... i talked to a sleep doc... FULL BALANCED DIET AND LOTS OF WATER... if your body is gettin all the nutrents you need you wont get tired... im part of a team... all i do is nighttime driving... i can get 5 hours of sleep and never even feel like closing my eyes... if you want to get to sleep fast... drink an energy drink an hour before you need to sleep... cause thats all they are good for... and kidney stones wont be your best friend...
remember:
Vegs

BROVO!! I couldn't have said it better. Also...you guys that have people tell you that you snore should have a sleep study done. If you are found to have sleep apnea, USE A CPAP...even for power naps. And don't think that just because you're young and skinny that you can't have sleep apnea...you absolutely can. Sleep apnea can totally rob you of the majority of your sleep time and put HUGE pressure on your heart, and you need to take it seriously. If people tell you that you snore loudly, you do. If you do, chances are good that you have sleep apnea. If you have sleep apnea you're not getting good rest. If you're not getting good rest, you could have a very unbecoming pic of your smashed-up rig here on these pages.
Snoring = crashed rig = bad day.Big Don Thanks this. -
Im not saying that driving at night is a bad thing. I myself would just prefer to drive during the day I have friends that are O/O and they do most of theire driving during the day and are doing really well even in this bad economy.

Some of the best driving is done by "Vampire Express".....
Those little "Two-Laners", the moonlight and the occasional critter who becomes a grill ornament...and very few bears on the prowl......
