I got to the consignee at 0530 this am and was unloaded and sent my empty call around 0800. At what point does the 24 hour period start for layover? Is it from MT call or from the end of my 10 hour break? One other question, my idle time is low, but its like 93 here and I would like to keep my idle time down do I ask for idle time credit or something or do I eat that up to the 45% thanks.

Layover time is 24 hours fom EMPTY CALL to next LOADED CALL .. Get on yer DM to make sure they Pay you for it.
Idle time is tricky .. Get with yer DM and explain the heat and humidity factor, they do allow overage at times ...Tell them to shut the A/C off in the office while working ..lolMBunt387 Thanks this. -
It actually got cooler so I'm not worried about the idle time now. I barely idle as it is. Since my dm left for the day should I wait for the am to ask about the layover
-
Your "trainer" was supposed to explain layover & idling procedures. Did he?
-
Yes he did, but its a lot of info to cram in in 3 weeks. Hard to retain everything
-
Layover, Idle, Detention and so on is best handled with yer DM

MBHunt, for over-idle request (over 45% June thru September) this is the most effecetive way to submit your request on a daily basis, after you have idled. Send in Qualcomm free form as follows:
Driver code
Trk #
Date
Location
Temp "inside" the cab
Reason for idle (over 85 deg inside the cab)
Time idled
It's a pain to keep track, however, if you submit it daily during idling periods, this will cover your butt. Remember, your Sensor Tracs % will continue to go higher during hot periods and extended idling times. It may even go over 45% during the two week period between the time that payroll downloads the Sensor Trac stats. They download the stats every two weeks on a Saturday and your idling % drops back down to 0% and starts over for another two weeks.
There will be times when you have to idle excessively. I know this from experience. Just wait until you get laid over in 105 degree temps and 70% humidity for a whole weekend. That 45% idle "privilege" goes quick.
I hope this helps. -
Yessir it does. I appreciate it

Or drive around in circles and add miles to the truck .. this will decrease yer idle/drive time % ... lol

In this extreme heat, as was said, just keep track of the time you needed to idle and submit it to your DM. I was down south for a week in 100+ heat, sat for almost 2 days waiting to deliver a load in Ft. Worth, only shut the truck off for 4-5 hrs at night. Sent in all my idle time, even though I was over the 45%, I still got $40 or so in idle credit... If it's around 90 or hotter, it would be criminally unreasonable for them to expect us to bake. People get arrested for doing that to dogs.
