Headed back out Sat 8am. You need to stop and check it out. Take Mrs Tanker Yanker.... you won't regret it. In fact, you might even move me up a few notches on the Christmas Card List.

    Holler Back

Hey, I have read thru all of the post here about LC WOW!! What a company to work for, I'm as grren as the grass on the newest baseball firld, I'm going to CDL School and will graduate in July, I hope to find my second career where I can retire and float off into the sunset(slowly) I have been a courier driving a peeecup or a small car for most all my life, I'm in my mid 40's and need a change of scenery, I have owned my own companies and I have done alot of stuff but never drove a big truck over the road, I like many of you used to watch the "Big Twucks" go down the road as I laid in the back window and dreamed of driving like those guys did! Well that is coming to a reality for me, I am looking forward to it, I like all of the nice advise that is given here on this site, I don't pay any attention to those who walk into a room nd then there A$^ comes in about 5 minutes later or who are dragging their lip on the ground because they have had it puckered up all there lifes waiting for someone else "To put the screws to them" I am a very positive person :biggrin_255:and think that life is 99.9 percent what you make of it. I look forward to hearing from all of you happy Drivers out there. I am impressed with LC from what I have read here and on their web site. Thanks. TD.:biggrin_25517:

Good for you Trey.... Trucking has always been a dream of mine, and I waited until my 40's to get into it. I only wish I had done it sooner.

You are going to run into a lot of drivers that have not had the best experiences driving, or may be disgruntled with the system or the industry. And they have some valid points as well. But you can learn from what they are saying and go forth. Best advice that I can give you is research all of the companies that are in your area or pass through your area. Try to avoid these MEGAcompanies unless you have no other option. There are many smaller companies out there that will hire drivers fresh out of school. They are fewer and farther between, but they are out there. I can promise that your "starting out" experience will be much better. Just trust me on this.

Now, you need to realize something else..... driving truck, especially OTR, is far from easy work. The hours are long, the waiting time is long, the roads can be tough, and being away from loved ones is even tougher. You need to make sure that you have the support of your family in this. Also, understand that it IS a job, but it is also a LIFESTYLE. And it is not for everyone. Go into this with your eyes wide open. There is a lot more to it than jamming gears, and riding off into the sunset.

That being said, I wish nothing but the best for you in this endeavor. And if you ever have a question, feel free to holler at me. I don't have all of the answers, but I will be more than happy to help you find the answers I don't know.

    All my Best to you.......

    truckerdaddy24 Thanks this.

Hey TD! You should PM Scooterdawg and ask to buy a copy of his book. It's a quick and informational read about his experiences as a newbie. He's living off the royalties from it now so the price might not be as reasonable as it used to be!!:biggrin_25525:

So how was breakfast? A couple of places down here in the Big City that you might want to check out are:

    West End Cafe
    916 W 4th Street

    Bibs Downtown
    675 W 5th Street

West End Cafe is an eclectic artsy sort of place that has great subs as well as reasonably priced upscale dishes at night.

Bibs is a Barbecue place that serves a combination of Texas style and NC style wood smoked meats.

Both are near the new Downtown Baseball Park should you ever decide to check out a minor league baseball game.

Breakfast was incredible. The eggs were real, the sausage was cooked completely, the grits were VERY GOOD, biscuits were perfect, and the country gravy was obviously homemade. I'm here to tell you what.... with or without me, you need to check this place out. Ironrydr turned me on to it. So he deserves the credit on this one.

Lunch sounds Do-able....... Of course, anyone that knows me will tell you I very rarely turn down food. You got my number?

I still have your number. Eventually we will be in town some weekend at the same time. Tomorrow is my sons 16th birthday and we are doing the family cookout thing. I am heading back out on Sunday with a dry bulk drop and swap in N Chicago. Should be back on Tuesday.

Thank You Very Very Much, I have all of the support I can ever have, Living in Arizona some of the smaller companies I am finding run thru here often, I'm hoping I will get plenty of home time once I go solo, I appreciate the help, I'm not one to know very much about anything but I can learn quickly, If you guys have or hear of any smaller companies that are hiring New Grads I would appreciate the word. I've look at several of the larger ones, They are exactly what you say just a mill shaking the trunk to see what fruit stays a little it longer, That fruit we may be able to make into a driver... May be not. Thanks Again. TD.
