we have one two, it has 1.3 million on it and the tranny or clutch has never been touched. I didn't like the super 10 at first, but once I figured it out it's a nice tranny, although I still prefer my 13.
Like the others said, just allow a little extra time for the splitter shift.

I just started driving and i have a super 10 and i prefer to take it out of gear and put it back in, to speed up the process. It only took me about 5 practice runs before i got it down. One thing i thought about was, even the best drivers mess up sumtimes.
-
That's the way to drive it. Take it out and put it back in. Been doing it for a long time now.
Any instructor who "doesn't like" you doing it that way has no business being an instructor, or being in a big truck at all for that matter. -
You can also speed up to shifting ,just as you split the gear, if you push the clutch in it will quickly shift .it helps if you dont want to loose momentum to go uphill.
san45bar Thanks this. -
This is how I drive 13's and 18s as well.

Decent tranny that has gotten a bad reputation, we had eight 1999's KW's with them all over a million, never had one apart.
-
I had one in the truck i used to drive for my dad. i liked it just fine and we never had one issue with it then or now. the only ppl ive ever met that disliked it were the guys that had the electronic version that did the 9/10 split on its own, but i do believe u can have it reprogrammed to not do it automatically.

As far as tips/pointers, in my opinion it's all about floating gears. How are you at floating? If you've got this down then driving a super 10 is easier.
So, can a regular 10sp be converted to a super and vice-versa? -
My co. has several Super 10's. They have proven to be good tranmissions if properly driven. Mine has 1.7 mil on it, still working OK. They do tend to shift a bit slow, especially when cold. You can speed them up a bit as earlier posters have mentioned by using the clutch or moving to neutral when splitting. I use the jake when splitting up going up a hill.
Our mechanic says we have had certain drivers that could tear them up pretty quickly, but he never figured out exactly how they were doing it. -
We talked about this in another thread quite awhile ago ; but what tears up super 10's is moving the shifter to the middle or left gate while moving at too high a speed. When the shifter leaves the right gate, the range shift happens automatically, and the synchronizer doesn't take too kindly to being asked to accelerate the main box so rapidly. Spits the pins, and you're stuck in high range. Downshift normally and you'll never have trouble. This tranny is a 13/18 with only 3 gears in the main box, and a totally different shift tower. 2/4 & 3/5 each reuses the same main gears, just as 1/5, 2/6, etc, do in the 13/18. The right gate is just a dummy that uses the same shift rails as the center gate, it's only there for the range shift.
