that's because he's probably barely making it at Swift's wonderful pay

Exactly! You still have be cleared by Swift just like a company driver.

When I worked for swift, my mentor about 6 months into my career wanted me to take over his lease. I thought about it, but had to ask why he, a mentor, and a good one wanted me to take it over for him. He later told me he was going to another company and no longer works at Swift either. If I'm not mistaken he had left before I did. Claimed he wanted more home time. How long has your friend been with Swift?

About 2years. He is in town every other week

I know things can be exciting but be very careful. I mean he is running a business so his business expenses and truck needs to be taken care of first. Then he and or his family then you. That's how things would be structured in my head. I would, if I were you, think about all the negative and bad things that could crop it's head and take all of this off course. Is everything taken care of in your personal situation? Bills, debts, etc. I would not want to have a bad week, which happens, or two and then be stuck far from home bills wise and not able to take care of the issues. I would live on a thin personal margin until I know for sure he is running the truck to be profitable. And able to pay you consistently and on time. Just a precaution. Tap the brakes.

You can easily get 6k miles in 6 days. Miles are there. I did it while I was training... still can't find a good reason to team.
