Schneider IC trucks...wide open...I believe its federal law that you must have the option to take the truck where you want to operate it. My truck is financed by SNI they have over 200 different companies I can lease on to....its all about the weekly payment. These guys with there own "authority" are a dumpster fire if they think there any different than us....lease is an owner operator and yes my lease has my company name on the title, sure its got a security lien to SFI if it gets wrecked etc, but all the expenses are mine....

Captain Daverokue Thanks this. -
What experience do you need to get on with swift leasing? I have 3 months verifiable.
-
Swift might let you lease a truck right now, but how prepared are you to run your own business?
-
No No No unless you have owned a business dont even think of O/O until you have done at least a year OTR you have alot more to learn.....

I am prepared I have been helping my friend run a local business for about a year now. I am new at driving otr, but I think I will be able to handle it fine. I want to have choice in where I go, how I do things, and to make some money. Fuel is cheaper now than its been in quite awhile. I have been around trucks my whole life.
-
Price of fuel has zero to do with it....in fact you want high fuel prices if you have a truck that gets more than 6.5 mpg to the gallon as you can make margin off your mpg vs surcharge...

I didn't know they changed the rules and would let an IEL leased truck leave Swift and sign up with another company, as some of the posts have said. When I signed my Buy Out Contract it stated I can not go anywhere else with this truck, that if I left Swift, the truck stayed or belonged to Swift, or IEL.
There is a current youtube video about a L/O who got kicked out of his truck while parked in Sparks Term. Its kinda sad and also funny.
And P.S. The Buy Out Program works. After 3 years of sometimes starving, I now own this truck free and clear. With no $600/wk trk pymt, its almost all gravy for me. But it was a real challenge and struggle just getting to this point.
Good luck to any one with the ambition to try it, it can work. But be prepared to go if you have to weeks without a paycheck, just to keep on going forward until you reach the end.

Swift cancelled his lease because he posted videos of himself doing unsafe things.
End of story for him and his lease, and any options he might have had. -
Well I guess the end to his story is, he quit trucking for good after trying to do local for a while. There are so many that come into this industry, thinking its so easy and fun, when its not.
Its going on my 21st year now, and honestly, before that, never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would be a trucker, in fact it was the last thing I wanted to be. But...its been a fun ride and the best one of my life so far.blsqueak Thanks this.
