I'm actually not looking to own the truck. Just have more control over my own running. Figure get a new truck with a full warranty and in 3 years turn it in for another new truck and keep going. At least I would be the one deciding when and where and how hard I gotta run. And if it all starts going to hell I just call them and say I wanna be a company driver again here the keys.

I've always understood that it's almost NEVER a good idea to lease a truck from the company that controls your dispatches.
If you truly wish to be an O/O, buy a used truck from a dealer, or private party. Have bad credit, or no money saved? Then you should reconsider your decision to be your own boss.

    Just my $00.02 worth....

That's a good philosophy but if everyone thought that way an no one ever took a risk where would America be today? Think every business that got started had a backup fund and a perfect plan? I'm betting not. They took a chance and made it work. Everyone buys stuff on credit these days. It the American way. Gone are the days of "if you can't pay cash you don't need it." Attitude. That might of worked back 20 years ago when people couldn't get credit and a that stuff. Take a chance. Take a risk. If ya fail learn from the lesson and do better next time. Throw caution to the wind and take a leap of faith. Life's too short to spend 10 years saving up to buy a worn out truck. By the time you save up enough to pay cash for a truck I could have the lease paid off and driving a new truck. Life's short grab it by the short and curls and take charge.

Never said pay cash for a truck. The same truck company "X" wishes to lease to you can usually be found at a dealership for less money. And you're not tied to company "X" when 3 months from now, you find out company "X" lied to you. Or they lose a major customer.
There are too many stories out there where someone has to be their own boss, just has to be able to pick the loads they want, run where and when they want , etc. No money down sounds great, because they have no money, or lousy credit. Then when the trans takes a dive, and they don't have the $2000.00 to cover the repair bill, or can't afford to have the truck sit for a week and a half, they come on here, and complain how the company screwed them, the company did this, or that, etc.

Knock yourself out, do the L/P, I hope you do well. But the odds are against it.

That's why id get a new truck. If that tranny falls out its covered by the warranty. If the turbo blows its covered by warranty. If the tire falls off and I slam into a bridge... Well that's probably on me but the tire is covered on warranty.

Man, I kinda laugh when I see people make this comment on here, but it's so true here. You are a companies dream driver.

You haven't uttered anything close to a good idea or plan for how you would profit more with a lease. All your risk taking BS just makes you sound like a little kid that refuses to listen to advice he knows he should listen to. The VAST majority of Lease Operators fail, and some of them probably at least had a plan or goals. You just want... the experience..?

You're a new driver, stay company.

4 years as a driver isn't new. I'm not a 30 year veteran but by no means am I new. I just strive to be more then a company grunt my entire life. I've worked for 3 different companies over a 4 year period and I have never made more then 40k a year. I ran the nets on my current company and my average bring home pay since January is $494. That's just above minimum wage pay. What do you suggest to get out of this minimum wage cycle?

Problem is doing a lease thru some of these companies they only pay 90 cent a mile plus 2/3 of the surcharge and tell u what a deal your getting. If your gung ho on doing this do percentage if its not offered pass em up. Best idea is to buy a truck you own it you call the shots and if u don't like em ya can leave and go some place else.

Confused you with OP. Ok, minus the new driver comment, I still stick to everything else I said. You are coming off like a 22 year old that wants to do this just because you feel like it. If your checks are that low find a better company. For Christ sakes, if you don't have the brains to make over 500 bucks a week as a company driver with 4 years experience, how are you gonna make money on a lease?

I agree totally.. If your going to do the lease get on a percentage base program.. but even better if you are booking your own freight b/c your not at the mercy of a DM.. but if you are in a situation where you can buy or finance a truck out right without it being from a company that is the best way to go b/c you can always change companies if they are not doing what they say.. If you lease from them they kind of have a hold on you to control part of it..
