As far as L/P, it is what a person makes of it. Yes, there is lots to think about. I have been with Swift now almost 3 years, and a L/P almost all of the times. Is there lean times, yes, great times, yes. You just take the good with the bad. One thing that I like, my truck was down for 2 weeks, and they put me in a loaner truck for the whole time. My cost, the same as my truck payment. Money lost, ZERO. Truck again in shop for almost 10 days, another loaner until it was fixed. Even though I do have a dispatcher, it is one that works with me along with his other drivers that are on his board that are L/O. Does everything that is possible to keep them in the areas that they like and can make the money, and light loads. Example, last load that I just delivered, after truck expenses, I still netted close to .60/mi. Probably will not believe me, but the load was 8k, slight tailwind and mostly all flat land. Does this happen often, more often than not. It can happen. Before Swift, I went to SNI, picked up my truck, went for a test drive and it caught on fire. Recruiting tried twice to put me in a truck that I did not want. Kept saying, it is only for one year. Could not get them to understand, I am the one paying for it. Again, it is what a person makes of it. Oh, I am also a trainer, and when new drivers ask me about a lease, my words to them, stay company for at least 1 year before you even think about it.

I think a L/P is what you make of it.. I have done both per mile at Swift and percentage at SNI.. I would still be at SNI if my ex wife wouldn't have gotten sick.. I came off the road for year and half.. to take care of our little ones now she's better and things are going really good for her I'm going back out and back to SNI on their "choice board".. It's the program I like b/c I have more of a control over what I do.. but it's not for every one.. just like the mileage program is not for everyone.. It all goes back to what you feel comfortable with and how you handle it.. handle it like a business and work and not well I'm in charge and I can go when and where I want to.. then you can go somewhere.. if you handle it opposite and you'll be sitting with a hell of a truck payment and insurance and wondering what the hell happened.. but some people need guidance and help along the way and/or feel more comfortable being under dispatch, not saying that is a bad thing or that they are any lessor then the other, and other people feel more comfortable running the boards and dispatching theirselves.. I know I have had bad exp with dispatchers is why I like the boards and that I like the challenge of it and keeps me on my toes but like I said not for everyone.. that is what makes this world go round.. everyone has their likes and dislikes and what they feel comfortable with. #### would be a boring world if we were all the same..
I agree with you that you need at least a year exp as a company driver and really need to be under dispatch to see where they get dispatch better out of and where the lanes are that works for them and mainly just how the trucking world as a whole is.. I read on here from one poster that trucking is not what it used to be I say AMEN! the good ole boys of the past is gone.. it's been a cut throat business for awhile but the drivers need to go back to what used to be.. help each other and common curtisy toward one anther.. don't do to someone that you wouldn't wanted done to you..I say if you want to do a lease program make sure you research everything.. talk to some of us on here that is doing it and have done it. Understand that some are hard against it and some are for it.. I know I like the program, BUT if my credit was better (and I know that's my fault) I'd buy from the outside(dealer) and then run my own auth instead of leasing , but again that's not for everyone either.. so I say we should all help everyone and work together instead of beating each other up like some have done on this tread and we would all have a better chance to succeedmattbnr Thanks this. -
Best advice I can give. Never lease from the man who controls your miles therefor your paycheck. Use a neutral lease company then lease to the company you want to run for.

DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
That is why i gave the number in case someone wants information. To call and get information does not inply an application. fact gathering is how most decisions are made. Many people think we have a lease purchase program where there is a balloon note due, etc., but we do not own any equipment at all. it is significantly different than most people think that it is. Information is key.
