One crst driver who posts here said they turned down the original truck and waited a week but got what they wanted. I'm fine with that except for the starving in a hotel i cant afford to pay for for a week (maybe i should pawn something so ill have a few hundred to take ?).
Im not sure what they have honestly theres not much info. I saw one guy driving a volvo but i thought CRST only did freightshakers?
My concerns are engine miles/service record, leaks, cab leaks, windows, noise (loud truck = leaks) and i absolutely will not take a truck that doesnt have a good tranny and clutch. I could care less if it's pretty inside or out.

Sounds to me like you know what to look for and I concur with the not concerned with the "prettiness" of said truck...
Your right, not a whole lot of info pertaining to CRST Malone and the trucks specifically. I found a sight; flatbedowneroperator.com/CRST-Malone-Lease-Purchase.html
and it is halpful but, old...
I have researched as much as possable and prepaired myself for the call I will make tomorrow. I have done all I can as a company driver, done with it. I do not want to do the lease purchase deal but, at this point I have no choice, if I want to achieve my goal, and CRST Malone seems like a better deal than most. Plus, there is more potential to find freight, instead of just a dispatcher. If I fail, not an option by the way, it will be on me and me alone.
Yes, you should do what you can to have some money for the first two weeks, if not a month. From what I have read, they will not start deductions till the 4th week. Don't quote me on that, just that I read it somewhere and now cant find it..of course..lol

I found it and I stand corrected; Payments start third week after the lease.
Found it on craigslist add from 02/18/2013 -
Send me your number when you start we can share notes and maybe help each other out. BTW that's obviously a crst produced page and it actually warns you about the pitfalls and dangers of leasing and has realistic cost estimates. Makes me feel a little better
Do you have any link to the weekly truck payment or anything? I know trailer lease is like 185 a week (ouch).. i plan to buy a trailer asap but ive got too many numbers from too many companies in my head. Some were 250.. dart etc are like 550. i THINK CRST is 350 (if so things look pretty good) -
Found it. 9 months of the year 325 the other three i believe its 140 (sweet).
Fixed weekly costs: 785 +300 maintenance (inluding truck and trailer)
I "imaginarily" booked a trip from mills river, nc to laredo tx to charlotte nc 2874 miles +188 deadhead for me home and back. thats a 4 day run god willing and texas freight is weird so may never see THIS run again. And of course you can toss one or two short runs on the end of that or book a load that delivers monday somewhere.
The numbers are
1085 fixed cost
3062m x6mpg @ 3.64 (current ei) - .10 fuel discount = 1806.58
3062m x7mpg @ 3.64 -.10 fuel discount = 1549
Texas loads are heavy loads. And its HARD not to drop the hammer on those long boring roads. Im assuming 6mpg in a GOOD truck.
2891 total cost. thats about $1 a mile cost (predictable eh).
Add in crst's 25% off the top (outside load. i dont know if their load board lists your cost or if it lists the total including their 25%).
you need to make 1.25 a mile + driver pay. To pay the driver $1000 the load needs to pay 1.60 including fuel surcharge.
So IF you book these loads, everythign works, no murphys law even at 1.50 a mile (#### goes wrong. You idle like a fool. You do 75 with a 44k load on) you bring home 700 and are home friday afternoon.
Of course murphys law is a biznatch, stuff happens, you cant always find those nifty loads out and back or you run short hauls off their boards. That's not even a hard week for me though i understand that's not everyones cup of tea. From where i live though it should be easy to book texas, chicago, iowa and western illinois loads.
Any thoughts?SheepDog Thanks this. -
Also i figured out CRST's business plan and if im right it's awesome for them and the driver as long as the driver finds the right loads for himself.
Theyre basically serving as a broker (who doesnt even have to broker) and a truck lease/service/sales company.
That .25 off the top makes them a profit.
Their fixed cost charges and keeping the maintenance covers financial risks of leasing the trucks + profit.
Enough that they can afford to drop a couple hundred a month during slow times to lower the drivers truck payment. Helps them keep drivers pulling in money. I dont see any reason for them to be shady.. they have profit on top of profit on top of profit while basically serving as nothing but a leasing agent and brokereage. Theyd be morons to scam their drivers.SheepDog Thanks this. -
I agree with what you say, with respect to CRST Malone but, I am sure there are some dishonest agents and even, drivers...lol All in all, I believe it is up to ME to make it work, no one else. If you have to deadhead more than YOU want, to a terminal to get a PM doen, than I feel your were not paying attention to your miles. It may not always workout the way I hope and pray it does but, I will do everything I can to make it work and if I fall short, no one to blaim but ME. Its our job to research the company we are looking at..lol
