No, I know I never said any of that over the years. However, when I see the trucking paper for used trucks for sale, and all those less than 1 year old rigs, or even under 2 years old, I have to wonder what happened and why. I think it is the age old adage that many see only what they want to see, and not the cold hard facts.

Yes, true, one can get his/her own loads, but that is time consuming, so maybe a brokerage house/agent may be needed. Sure, you pay fee's, but you tell them what you want, and do not want. Don't also assume that 'you make all that money" is an every day event either. You still have bills to pay. Some days, you may only break even.'

It is a gamble, in any business to start off. Surely some advice, training and most importantly prior experience helps.

I don't fully agree with this, although leasing isn't great, not everyone has the same idea of "is it worth it", if you have descent credit, just go to a dealer, if said credit is a issue, and you want to own a truck, maybe lease, but do some research!, and read the contract, don't just take their word on what it says, I know that at John Christner Trucking (JCT) you can finish the lease and own the truck, now, there isn't any lease that is great, all leases are geared to the company, even at JCT, you have to understand if you lease a truck from a company? You do not own the truck! You are not a owner operator! You are simply a guy paying for a truck, to one day own, you will need to comply with said companies policies, governed speed, what you can and can't do to the truck, just as a company driver

The OP should go company driver and learn the business first. In my opinion it's foolish to go from student to lease operator. He may find out trucking isn't for him.

I completely agree!! That's why I ask these questions now so when I sit down with a company that wants to hire me out of school and they're shoving they're lease to own suggestions down my throat, I'll know how to handle it and know what to say no to! Thank you for everybody's thoughts! Just trying to get all my ducks in a row as I'm pursuing a new career and don't want to get in over my head right off the bat!

Some companies, and CR England comes to my mind, used to really push a new student into the L/O situation. How they are now, I do not know, but yeah, I'd steer clear of being pushed into a direction you really wouldn't want right out of the box.

Good luck to you, ask many more questions regarding leasing, buying or just being a company slave.

I doubt CRE is pushing the lease anymore ... a few years ago it was rare to see a CRE company truck ... now I rarely to see a CRE IC truck, most of them are company.

Not all leases are lease to own... Some are simply renting a truck with no equity in it.
