We just got out of a lease program into our own truck...We had to also put .02 cents a mile into Maintenance, that was non refundable if you backed out of the lease...

Insurance was high cause it was a new truck, and payments were $550/week...

Now that we own our own truck, WE WOULD NEVER GO BACK...

With the price of trucks dropping its better to put that $400/week into your own account for a year and go out and buy a truck and not be contolled by the company you are leased to, the interest saved goes to you, the maintenance money is controlled by you...

    Just an opinion....

On the first page there is a topic create by you saying you just bought your first truck 2 months ago. Are you really in a position to tell a trucker with 30 years under his belt what is good money or not? Hopefully you will never have to understand the saying "one breakdown away from bankruptcy" through experience.

I may have only had my own truck for 2 months, But as many do here speak from what they seen Done and know. I may only been an O/O for 2 months, but been around the industry much longer, and when I was not doing research.

I know enough to know right now bad timing to go out fully Independent due to Low rates and slow freight, but some say that the only way to go and claims 0.94 is not enough pay.

I currently getting 0.90 plus FSC and doing Good. The Company pays most of the expenses, leaving me to pay my truck payments, Fuel and Bobtail Insurance. So my operating cost is very low so 0.90 I am making good money, and more than what I may get if I was independent with the current rates of most loads that is being offered, and making more than some rates.

I agree Independent is better in good times, but right now it's not. it does not take a expert to see, nor does it mean only ones with 30 years knows this. So cause I only had my own truck for 2 months does not mean I am in the blind. I not speaking blindly but from what I seen, and experiencing. I am making 50% more in one week than I made in a month as a Company driver. As a Company Driver I was depositing 1000.00 each month, now I am averaging 1500.00 a week in the bank after all items paid. Plus I am look in ways to cut my out put so I have more income.

But to answer your question It does not take an expert to know some things, and experts do not know everything. Even people with only 2 months experience will know some things.

Well I will not see that due to putting money aside so I will not have to do bankruptcy. As being leased to a Company I have 0.05 pm taken out for repairs, plus what I am setting aside on my own.

See I am not a Dumby, I done my homework, via here and other forums, along talking and keeping my eyes open since I was a Child.

Just a note I pulled all lease purchase guys payroll for this week. We all know times are tough right now but the take home pay after all expenses ranged from for the low guy 757, the rest were above 1200 and the high was 1750. now each guy could have had advance money taken out or child support or things that you wouldn't factor in when doing a comparison. That scenario does apply to 3 out of seven that I noticed so their take home would have been higher. So I don't think that is bad considering average miles have dropped by around 400 miles.
One other interesting note is people talking about getting 1.40 a mile. Not in the world of van freight. some of my customer freight does better than that but you get east of Ohio you wont see a 1.40.At least not enough to keep 300 trucks moving

Does "all expenses" include things like comprehensive insurance on their truck ? You know through the year they will have to take money out for tires and repairs . Not many company drivers will make $1750 a week but plenty are in the $750 - $1200 range .
No freight over $1.40 east of Ohio ? Don't run east of Ohio ! That's where you have some of the worst roads and traffic in the country anyway .

All expenses includes everything including maintenance the first year. As far as running east that is where I make my money. Enough that when I come back at these rates that are ridiculous I still make money.

94 cents is a good wage for an all inclusive deal. You have to compare apples to apples not apples to oranges. I'm currently working for a company that pays something like 87cpm and the truck is still making money. same deal. plates, permits, insurance all paid for. just leaves fuel and maintenance coming out of that rate. and drivers wage of course.

94 cents dont seem that bad. Pretty sure if anyone is dedicated to make it work it will work.
