Sure he can. A lease operator will be just fine...

    ....until he goes home.

Then suddenly all the expenses snowball. You will hear many a lease drivers complain in May that they have not seen a paycheck since Thanksgiving.

Why would anyone become a L/O hoping to make $1000 a week. It's easy to make that as a company driver, plus company pays half your FICA taxes, you get health insurance partially paid by company, vacation pay, holiday pay, and when you go home for RandR you don't have to work on your truck. If I was going to be a L/O my goal would be at least 80-90k plus a year.
Plus no pressure on you to make truck payments, repairs, maintenance. I consider myself part-time driver. Out 14 days, home 7 days and made $39k last year. Thats over $1100 per work week. I'm ready to get home after 14 days and ready to drive after 7 days at home. Perfect for me.
    Stay safe.

Save $300 a week you can have it in just under 10 years. Who needs $150k for just a truck anyways? You could easily start up for half that buying used and have a nice chunk for operating expenses and personal emergency fund.

Do it on a regular enough basis. Depends on a lot of factors. One of which being the ability to keep your foot out of the right pedal.

Iowa 80 truck show is this week. Anybody near Walcott Ia swing by and say hello. I have a loaner truck (cascadia) and my stainless show trailer entered. Unfortunately my Coronado show class truck was clipped Monday!!!! Nonetheless swing by and visit, be safe out there.

Could always rent a small car for like $25 on way. Leave the tractor at the JCT yard.

I do just that. Keep a car at the yard.
