Here is what is against anyone going with a Lease/Purchase VS company driver job VS Percentage Paid O/O. When you get dispatched by the same company that owns your truck and your lease, you have limited negeotiating power about how much money you need each month to make it. They see your revenue, they see your Operating costs, They typically have recourse for repossing the truck should you fall behind in your payments. if you dont run there is not enough revenue to make the payment, Are your numbers of revenue after all expenses? Fuel, Insurance, truck payment, Tolls, Maintenence, Labor, Base Plate, Operating Authority , Fines, Income Tax, Road Use Tax, Fuel Tax, Parking Fees, Showers, Hotels, Equipment, Tarps, Tools, Chains And Binders for Flatbedders, and anything that i forgot to mention? Don't forget the big one" Truck Replacement Cost" this is where the guys that don't make it usually have trouble. If you can Pocket $3000 a week for 3000 miles AFTER "ALL" of those expenses then You should have an ok lease. I am not out there any more but it seems like Fuel would run around $2500 for 3000 miles, correct me if I am wrong. A new truck payment around $2500, and what, Insurance around $500 a month ? at least maybe 30 cents a mile for repairs and maintenence, maybe more? Seems like expenses would be $3000 plus each week. $12,000 a month ? Remember The Lease Company has to make a profit for that truck too.
I was an OO for 30 of the 40+ years I was out there and the only guys I know who really made enough to sustain buying a truck and having enough to trade up when their truck became too costly to operate were "Percentage Paid" drivers not "Mileage Paid" drivers. They (and ME) kept their banking, maintence, repairs, and dispatch separate, . Now having said that, if you feel like the company will stand behind you as you claim, and you can walk away with your credit in-tact and not get sued for expenses if you do quit, Then this job should at least be a good learning experience for what to do or not do reguarding becoming a successful O/O. Id like to know who you are looking at.
Good luck, be safe and Dont let anyone rush you out there on the Highway.

IF you get the fuel surcharge you are supposed to get (I do), and IF you get 6 miles a gallon, your fuel cost is $1.25 a gallon. If you get over 6 miles a gallon (I do) then your fuel is even lower than that. Most people do not get the "real" FSC.

Note the really really huge "if" there...

    TruckerPip Thanks this.
