3 years solo, but my dad was a fleet owner and my mom was a broker, unfortunately both of those treasure troves of advice aren't around to ask
Most of the companies I've been looking at are percentage, two have actually broken down what that would average out to weekly and monthly. I run hard but that doesn't go very far when I'm not getting paid well. Thank you for the advice
Do you have any companies I should look into that I may have not seen anyone post about already? I've looked into Landstar, but I get a lot of nonanswers. And there are Eastern European companies a plenty but I'm wary about that because I just don't know who's legitimate or not
I've no idea what numbers they're giving you. My numbers are adequate for my needs. If I log 2500 miles I have a tough time netting less than $4k. That's just pulling a regular company dryvan, but I'm in the process of leveling up.
If I got even close to that right now I'd be a happy camper, I run dedicated reefer as a company driver
Look, I've been doing this for almost 30 yrs so you can take what I say is as valuable as a grain of salt. My first 2 1\2 yrs was company driver then leased O/O, then my own authority for the last 15 yrs. Find a good company to lease to and learn the ropes, then get your own authority if you feel confident. Buy a new truck if you have the credit. A used truck could cost you a lot more money unless you are a mechanic also. Either way, make sure you have a huge credit line or savings because this can become a money pit. ALSO, purchase a truck that has resale and well-made, like by PACCAR.
Keep in mind, that's merely net in the context of the carrier's cut. Then out of that I still have to pay fuel, maintenance, repairs, insurance, etc.
