Leasing at Prime

    I totally understand that the total miles will be less going solo, resulting in less revenue. Am I correct to assume though that the trips we get still pay the standard 72%?

    STPA = STop PAy

    OULU = OUtside LUmper - When I was leasing, I NEVER included this in my revenue, because in 99.9% of situations, when the settlement came, the number would change to the actual amount paid to the lumpers, no matter if it was higher or lower than the OULU amount. The other 0.1% of the time, it was clearly noted in the dispatch that it was a flat unloading rate that was paid no matter what was charged (I think I had that on 1 load in 5.5 years.).

    I used a Calc spreadsheet for a while. Now I use the ipad/iphone version of Apple Numbers.

    I use a web based accounting software that I've customized for trucking. Still working in the design of the interface so I could offer it to others but it allows me the ability to see my net profit by period, against my budget or projections and against the YTD. The way I use it I track everything by load so when I get my settlement statement I can compare each load, and then run a report that tells me what hasn't been paid by each load. I also use a spreadsheet on my tablet to track basic quick info about each load like odometer readings, estimated revenue, who the receive/customer is, any po's I have submitted for, trailer #, and notes.

    You'll find each of us have a different method of tracking stuff. Just like you said your trainer doesn't track anything but thinks he's making a profit. I know if I didn't track it the way I do I would loose money every week in stuff I'm suppose to get reimbursed for. Every 2 weeks I send a report to my dispatcher that shows him what is still outstanding for pay and dispatch. Sometimes it'll be $1,000+ in money I'm owed. But without a system like that to track it you'll never know.

    Got my first real settlement they charged my truck 4300$ leaving me with the paltry sum of 250$ at least I'm in the black and not red.

    Hi Beardfreak - Can you provide a little detail please? $4300 for what? Is this what you expected? If not, then what did you expect. $250 doesn't pay the bills (at least for me).

    From your numbers above, your gross was $4550. This does not correlate in any way with the numbers Mr IP shared earlier in this post. What in the world were you charged $4300 for?

    Most everything I've heard or read from other Prime Lease Op's is that the numbers can work, your numbers aint workin! (unless of course this was by design)

    Please fill us in - I'm sure I'm not the only one very interested in what you have to say.

    I'm sure it was for extra items that he charged to the truck when he picked it up, I.e. Refrigerator...etc

    Could be. If it was equipment and other goodies then that could make sense. I hate to make assumptions though. I do believe they'll space some of that out in payments.
