I can't say much but something game changing happened at my terminal today and may cause me to take the truck somewhere else. This isn't something I want to do but this was something no one expected. I still have two weeks to decide. Things are a little up in the air right now.

I was just talking to a current leased driver that paid off the lease then recently bought his own truck outside the Knight program. He showed me the pricing for dispatched loads and I was a little surprised by the pay loaded, unloaded, and the fuel surcharge. It seems a little slim compared to other carriers.

Knight pays pretty cheap doing the ports in LA

Crisis averted for now. I have to get the truck on the 8th and pick up some business stuff in the mail. The dealer will have the truck ready and I am pretty sure I will have them install my company name on the doors. Knight installs their own decals on the truck body.

I have never understood drivers wanting to be independent but then sign on to have a dispatcher they don't know control their income? Please explain. Go with a company where you choose your own loads and rates.

Baby steps. I know the Knight system and how to be productive in it. I will use this as an opportunity to learn how to run the business and would then branch out into something percentage based until I have the resources to go out with my own numbers.
In researching going out on my own authority I found that unless you have 2 years of time in operation the costs for equipment and insurance are too high. These costs drop significantly once an LLC has been operating successfully a couple of years.drvrtech77 and Dryver Thank this. -
Makes sense, good luck.

I finally read over the contract and was surprised how short it was. I think it is because I have my own truck. It is written in a way I could easily understand and nothing stood out as a red flag. It was a simple two page document.

One of the Youtube guys, 'Indianajack' is leased with Knight owning his own truck.

I have seen his videos. It would be cool to run into him one day.
