Well I can tell you right now yes you could do what your thinking of. But, as long as you keep the tuition current and actually pay it they will not DAC you for it. From what I have seen thus far in their Academy they honestly have a very good program. The tuition payment really isn't all that bad of a deal they guarantee 99% placement after graduation it's $75 per week for 13 months deduction and a $37.50 per week credit. In order to complete the program you have to do the 4-6 week Mentor program and at that point you are a Swift employee.

I guess I oughta read what ya'll post before I open my mouth. lol

    Good luck to you tho.

I would go with Swift. Pam is a pretty small outfit by mega grinder standards meaning less terminals and plus they have a ton of negative reviews on here.

Is that for the semester? how many credits? College is great and easier to get loans and grants for then a CDL but you don't get a degree in 21 days and a job like Swift, you have 4 years, 16 semesters at $1063 each is more then a CDL. Yes some private companies may charge less then Swift for your CDL but not everyone has the cash for it, and most won't give you work when your done. Swift worked for us, and the 13 months went by fast and if you can save while you drive you might be able to pay the schooling off if you want to leave early, lots of jobs and dedicated routes etc want at least 1 year experience more these days want 2 or 5 years OTR experience so why not dedicate 13 months to Swift and get to know the lay of the land.

I recently started with swift. I had prehire letters from about 7 different companies, but swift offers a Canada dedicated that will put me home more often. As for teaming, with swift you only do it while you have your mentor, unless you choose to afterwards. If you have issues, your mentor SHOULD adjust the schedule to where you drive in more daylight. I drove nights like a boss, but staying awake comes easy for me. It's the matter of being able to sleep while getting tossed around the bottom bunk as you go up and down mountain passes that bothered me. I stayed in the west coast mainly.

Its what you make it. I'm willing to work so we hit 6000 miles a week and I got plenty of backing.

Personally, I would rather slam my manhood in a sliding glass door than to team for 6 months. I like my sleep like I like my women. Stationary and quiet.

I just recently finished the Swift Academy and I can say it was a good experience, there are pros and cons to attending Swift of course. I originally wanted to go to a private local school which was more expensive but I could not get a loan for it and I could not get unemployment or anyone to help pay since they said I already had a degree and experience in another field....It came down to attending Swift Academy but so far it all worked out. I leave tomorrow to attend the orientation and go out with my mentor so I hope things continue to work out well. I know Swift doesnt pay as much as some companies but you have to begin somewhere. I have wrote my story about the Swift experience and I plan to update it as I progress with the company, I dont know how long I will stay with them but as long as they treat me well I will give at least my year. For those who think they can go to the academy and get a CDL and just leave to another company you need to make sure that company will hire first, most companies want a couple years experience to even work for them. If anyone wants to read my story I have wrote an app for Google play called "Swift Academy" and I made a webpage, I am currently working on a forum which is part of the site but not sure if many will join that. My website is http://swift.wolfyinc.com/

The website also has a couple links for decent practice test I used to ace my permit test.

"I originally wanted to go to a private local school which was more expensive" - May I ask why you wanted to go this route originally? I'm torn between a private local school (Roadmaster in Utah) that is $7000 for which I'll have to take a loan, and Swift's academy down in Arizona..

To the OP....as long as you pay the tuition in full. You have no contract with swift other than that loan. Their academies are recognized as PDTI certified in the industry, which has become a new standard. Swift will not release those records or certificate unless your $3,900 loan is repaid. Food for thought. Also you can tack on $500 for hotel bill during school.

Thanks. Regarding the hotel, I've actually made other arrangements while I'm down there. I'm taking my car and I'll be renting a room for the three weeks for $300 instead of doing the hotel for $500. I also applied to Prime and they called me today but I missed them. Called back but didn't know who to ask for. I'll probably give them a call back tomorrow and just talk to whichever recruiter I get. Prime seems to be pretty highly-regarded on here and I've actually had my eye on them since I considered trucking. They seem good.
